Forum For African Women Educationalists- Kenya Chapter FAWE Kenya empowers women and girls through education, reducing gender gaps in access, retention, performance, and completion at County and National levels.

Our programs promote gender equality in education and development. FAWEK is a non governmental organization registered in 1996 to support girls and women acquire education for development. FAWEK is a member of FAWE network of 34 chapters (FAWE Regional Secretariat) in 34 countries in sub Sahara Africa who work together to achieve equality and equity in education across the continent: thereby contributing to the attainment of education for ALL and Millennium Development Goals( MDGs)

EMPOWERING GIRLS TO THRIVE, LEAD AND CREATE CHANGE!

Over the weekend, the Forum For African Women Educationalists- Kenya Chapter team visited AIC Soy Girls Secondary School and St. Luke’s Sergoit Girls High School in Elgeyo Marakwet County to monitor the implementation of Modules 4, 5 and 6 of the ADOL Curriculum, delivered by trained facilitators.
The girls explored important topics including:

💪 Navigating Challenges & Becoming Changemakers – building resilience, identifying challenges and finding solutions.

💚 Health & Well-being – understanding holistic well-being and making healthy choices.

📣 Community Building & Advocacy – developing leadership, teamwork and participation skills, and learning how to use their voices to advocate for positive change.
Through the ADOL Programme, we continue to create spaces where girls can build confidence, strengthen their voices and develop the skills they need to shape positive change in their lives and communities.

INCLUSION MUST GO BEYOND ACCESS.

At the 2nd East African Community Regional Conference held at Safari Park Hotel on Education, FAWE Africa co-hosted a Spotlight Session with UNGEI exploring:

🎯How Can Gender-Transformative Approaches Support Learning and Equality Outcomes for All Learners: Building a Framework for Inclusivity, Accountability and Impact?
The conversation brought together diverse voices most importantly, girls themselves alongside education leaders, policymakers and practitioners.

We heard directly from girl participants from Kajiado and Kakuma, whose experiences offered an important reminder that barriers to education are not the same for every learner. Their voices were joined by Lilian Kong’ani, CEO Forum For African Women Educationalists- Kenya Chapter, Dr. Haga, Ministry of Education, Dr. Purity Ngina, CEO The National Gender and Equality Commission-Kenya and Thomas from The Action Foundation.

The discussion explored what it takes to move from commitments to meaningful change for learners who are too often left behind, including children with disabilities, refugees and learners from marginalised communities.

The conversation highlighted the need to:

🔹 Identify and respond to the learners who are being left behind
🔹 Equip teachers with the skills and support to create inclusive learning environments
🔹 Put learners’ voices and experiences at the centre of education conversations
🔹 Strengthen the role of parents and communities in supporting inclusive education
🔹 Strengthen policy, accountability and governance mechanisms
🔹 Use quality, disaggregated data to inform decisions, budgets and measure who is being reached

Inclusive education is not simply about getting children into school. It is about creating systems where every learner is recognised, supported, heard and given a fair opportunity to learn, participate and thrive.

As the conference calls for a shift from commitments to impact, these conversations are critical to building education systems that leave no learner behind.

HAPPY INTERNATIONAL YOUTH DAY 2026
From Evidence to Impact

Today is a significant day for advancing gender-responsive evidence in Kenya.

As we join the world in marking International Youth Day 2026, under the theme “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations, the Forum For African Women Educationalists- Kenya Chapter also joined partners and stakeholders in the dissemination of the National Gender Research Agenda (NGRA) for Kenya, which has been officially unveiled today.

The National Gender Research Agenda for Kenya, provides an important opportunity to strengthen how we generate, use and translate gender evidence into policy, programming and investment.
For us at FAWE Kenya, this conversation comes at an important moment.
Young people are not only beneficiaries of education systems. They are knowledge holders, innovators, advocates and important contributors to the evidence needed to shape better education policies and programmes.

Yet many girls and young people continue to experience barriers to education because of gender inequality and intersecting forms of exclusion including poverty, harmful social norms, disability, geographical inequalities, digital exclusion and other social and economic barriers.

This is why innovative, gender-responsive and youth-informed research matters.

As we reflect on the newly released National Gender Research Agenda for Kenya, we must ask:

🔹 How can young people's voices and lived experiences shape the research agenda?

🔹 How can innovative research help us better understand the barriers preventing girls and marginalised young people from accessing and completing education?

🔹 How can evidence generated through research reach decision-makers in the education sector in a form they can use?

🔹 How can technology and AI strengthen advocacy and make gender research more accessible?

🔹 And how can partners work together to ensure evidence translates into policy, investment and measurable change?

This is why today's Strategic Action Labs are particularly important. FAWE Kenya contributed to the session on “Leveraging Technology and AI for Advocacy and Knowledge Products for NGRA, Fund raising,” alongside KIPPRA and NCPD.

We believe that evidence must move beyond research reports.

It must reach classrooms, communities, policymakers, education leaders, development partners and investors.
And importantly, young people must have a seat at the table not only as beneficiaries of research, but as partners in generating the evidence that informs decision.

We therefore call for continued collaboration among young people, government, researchers, academia, civil society and development partners to generate evidence-based approaches that address gender inequality and create more inclusive education systems.

✅️Partnerships build the solutions.
✅️Investment takes solutions to scale.
✅️Together, we create impact.

National Gender Research Agenda Dissemination Workshop

Forum For African Women Educationalists- Kenya Chapter is proud to be part of the ongoing Dissemination Workshop of the National Gender Research Agenda (NGRA) at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD), under the theme:
“Evidence to Impact: Advancing Gender Equality Through Research, Partnerships and Sustainable Investment.”

The workshop is bringing together government institutions, researchers, academia, development partners and civil society to strengthen the link between gender research, policy, programming and sustainable investment.
A key moment this afternoon will be the Strategic Action Labs, which will focus on practical pathways for translating the NGRA into action.

FAWE Kenya is participating in the Strategic Action Lab on:
Leveraging Technology and AI for Advocacy and Knowledge Products for NGRA and Fundraising, alongside KIPPRA and NCPD.

For FAWE Kenya, this presents an important opportunity to explore how technology, artificial intelligence and strategic communications can help make gender evidence more accessible, compelling and useful for advocacy, policy engagement, resource mobilisation and knowledge sharing.

As an organisation with a strong focus on gender equality and girls’ education, we are keen to contribute to conversations on how evidence can move beyond reports and become a catalyst for policy change, investment and measurable impact.

Today, Forum For African Women Educationalists- Kenya Chapter convened a Strategic Partnership and Stakeholders Meeting at Clarion Hotel, bringing together partners and stakeholders committed to advancing girls' education, rights, and empowerment.
The meeting provided an opportunity to strengthen collaboration and reaffirm our shared commitment to creating an enabling environment where every girl can learn, lead, and thrive.During the meeting, Juliet Kimotho from the Graca Machel Trust shared an overview of the Pan-African Adolescent Girls Movement, highlighting the importance of building a strong, visible, and connected movement that amplifies the voices and leadership of adolescent girls across the continent.
Our Chief Executive Officer, Lilian Konga'ni, underscored the need for stronger partnerships, increased investment in girls' education, enhanced visibility of the girls' movement, greater government ownership, and sustainable platforms that empower girls to actively participate in shaping decisions that affect their lives. She also emphasized the importance of strengthening the capacity of organizations working to advance girls' rights and gender equality.
The discussions reinforced a shared understanding that lasting change is achieved through collective action, meaningful partnerships, and sustained investment in girls. Together, we can create opportunities that enable every girl not only to access education but to thrive and realize her full potential.
