A professional association committed to advancing excellence, standards, and leadership in Early Childhood Education and Teacher Development, proudly supporting Kinderheads College in nurturing competent and globally competitive educators. The Kindergarten Headmistresses Association (KHA) was established in 1973 as a non-profit organization uniting private nursery and kindergarten schools in Kenya
. Its mission has always been to raise the standards of early childhood education through professional teacher training and development.
1976 – KHA designed a comprehensive teacher training programme, with support from the Department of Education at the University of Nairobi, the Kenya Institute of Education, and Newton Le Willows College, Manchester, UK. In 1977, KHA welcomed its first students, launching a full-time two-year Diploma course that continues to train highly skilled teachers to this day.
1986 – Sponsored by the Aga Khan Foundation, KHA introduced the Nursery Teacher Certificate to train teachers for schools in less affluent urban and rural areas.
2000 – In response to demand across Kenya, KHA launched an In-Service course for practicing teachers aiming to improve their skills, delivered in ten modules in Nairobi, Mombasa, Kiambu, and Kisumu.
2004 – Recognizing the growing need for teachers skilled in special education, KHA began offering a one-year part-time Special Needs Diploma course. It provides high-quality, hands-on training for aspiring early childhood educators, producing teachers who are in high demand in pre-schools, kindergartens, nursery schools, and primary schools across Kenya. Through decades of dedication, KHA and its flagship institution, Kinderheads College, continue to shape skilled, compassionate, and innovative early childhood teachers, ensuring quality education for the youngest learners in Kenya.
