Final phase of kcse private candidate
1968 (Kenyatta Era): Adult education is officially introduced and a dedicated board is established.
1978 (Moi Era): A major milestone is reached. Driven by Moi’s advocacy, adult education becomes an official department under the Ministry of Education.
The Kibaki Shift: Free Primary Education (FPE) takes center stage, leaving adult education ignored. Adults are forced back into primary school classrooms—personified by Mzee Maruge, who made global headlines as the world's oldest primary school student.
The Uhuru & Ruto Eras: Funding and attention dwindle. The Uhuru administration focuses heavily on traditional primary and secondary pipelines, while the Ruto administration underfunded the department and reassigns it to the Ministry of Labour.
The Crisis in 2026
Today, the vast majority of adult learners are those who dropped out of school because "life happened" and survival had to come before education.
Now, as the 8-4-4 system draws to a close, the transition to the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) seems poised to leave adult and youth learners behind entirely.
Important Notice: Registration is now open for students wishing to enroll in the final phase of the KCSE examinations.

We often talk about education as if it’s a race with a single starting line. But the truth is, life intervenes. For many, the weight of the world landed on their shoulders far too early. Whether it was the responsibility of motherhood, the pressure of being the sole breadwinner, or the distraction of peer pressure, the classroom became a luxury they couldn't afford.
If that was your story, remember this: your past is a chapter, not the whole book. You may not have had the chance then, but you have the choice now. It’s time to stop looking at the doors that closed and start aligning yourself with the opportunities you can create today.

Choosing to resit the KCSE exam is a proactive decision; you are in control of your own path. Please make the most of this opportunity, as there are only a few days remaining before the registration window closes.

It’s never too early to change your mind, and it’s never too late to start.
Whether you’re 17 or 27, the decision to go back to school is a brave one. It’s an investment in the version of yourself you haven't met yet.
The time will pass anyway. You might as well spend it becoming who you want to be.

We have two years before the government phases out the 8-4-4 system. For individuals wishing to repeat the national examination, the opportunity is available this year and next year only.
Currently, there is no clear framework regarding how the government will integrate adult learners into the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) system. Therefore, it is highly recommended that you do not delay if you intend to sit for this exam.
