Teach your children that disagreements are allowed — expected, even.
A child who never challenges anything doesn’t grow into an adult with discernment. They grow into someone who doubts their own voice.

But teach them, too, that disagreement and disrespect are not the same thing. One invites growth. The other shuts connection down.

If we punish every “why?”every differing opinion, every uncomfortable truth they try to name,we’re not raising children who listen —we’re raising children who silence themselves.

And a child who learns to silence themselves at home will struggle to speak up everywhere else.

So let them question.Let them express discomfort.Let them bring their perspective into the room. This is how they learn to think critically, advocate for themselves, and recognise when something doesn’t feel right.

But also teach them how to disagree with integrity. How to express their truth without attacking. How to stay grounded even when emotions rise.

Because the goal isn’t blind obedience —it’s mutual respect.
It’s raising humans who can honour their own voice without diminishing anyone else’s.

Disagreement is healthy.Disrespect isn’t.
And children learn the difference by watching us navigate both. ❤️

When children come home from school,
don’t rush to ask:
“What did you learn today?”
“Did you finish your lunch?”
“Do you have homework?”

Instead, just hug them.
Tell them how much they were missed.
Let them feel that coming home means comfort, not questioning.

They’ve spent the whole day following rules, sitting still, being “good.”
What they need most in that moment isn’t more discipline
they need connection.

Give them time to breathe.
Just sit beside them, no pressure.
You’ll be surprised what they might share when they feel safe, not interrogated.

Sometimes, connection speaks louder than correction ever could.

There are times when our daycare kids take care of us.

It’s in the way they hug us without asking when we’re having a rough morning.
It’s in the way they bring us pretend coffee when they’re playing kitchen.
It’s the way they sit close when they sense we’re not feeling 100%.
Or when they draw us pictures and say, “I made this for you.”

They don’t even know they’re doing it, but their little gestures heal us in ways we didn’t know we needed.
Yes, we care for them… but sometimes, they take care of us right back.

And that’s the kind of love that makes this work worth every bit of it. 💛

Opening the lines of communication.
Getting to know them more each and every day.

And each and every day, I pray that home will be a place they remember as learning, laughing, growing, forgiving, and setting a strong foundation for many years to come.
