Daystar University is a Christ-centred non-denominational institution of higher learning which exists to equip Christian servant leaders for the transformation of church and society. Founded in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, as Daystar Publications in 1964, the institution was moved to Kenya in 1971 and registered as Daystar Communications, a non-profit organization in 1973 offering a five-week Int

ernational Institute for Christian Communication (IICC) course. In 1976, Daystar Communications started a two-year post-high school diploma programme in Christian Communications, followed by a two-year M.A programme in Christian Communication and Christian Ministries in 1978, in collaboration with Wheaton College in Illinois, USA. degree programmed in collaboration with Messiah College in Grantham, Pennsylvania, USA and changed its name to Daystar University College. On September 29, 1994 Daystar was granted a Charter by the Government of Kenya and became Daystar University. Since then, Daystar has continued to strengthen its academic offerings, research and extension services in response to emerging societal needs. Philosophy of the University

Daystar’s philosophy, as an academic institution, is the integration of faith and learning for transformational servant leadership. Daystar believes that faith is central to the holistic development of the human being and that such integration is inescapably linked to a cultural system. Daystar University’s Christian philosophy of life and conduct, teaching, training and research, is founded on Christian principles and values based on the following Biblical Statement of faith and practice. Daystar University students are participating in the 2026 Kenya Music Festival, which began on Tuesday, 4 August, and runs until Friday, 14 August 2026.

The University is competing in a range of music and elocution categories, joining institutions from across the country in one of Kenya’s premier platforms for showcasing artistic talent.

Throughout the festival, Daystar University’s participants will compete in categories including vocal music, instrumental performance, choral works, spoken word, poetry, and public speaking.

Congratulations to our students, trainers, and mentors for proudly representing Daystar University.

Dr. Japheth Mursi, Deputy Director, Research, Innovation and Commercialization Directorate; Dr. Lyn Rads, Director, Open, Distance and eLearning (ODeL); Grace Mbogo-Liyai, Protocol and Research Officer and FOSTER Project Coordinator; and Rachael Mwaka, Marketing Assistant, represented the Foster Project at Daystar University at the hybrid Deep Learning IndabaX Kenya 2026 forum held at the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI), where researchers, innovators and policymakers convened to explore the theme, “AI in Healthcare.”

Speaking during a breakout session titled “Whose Data Counts? Open & Citizen Science for Health Policy,” the team unpacked the principles of Open Science and explored the critical role of diverse health data in shaping evidence-based health policy. Through an interactive presentation, participants examined how integrating diverse sources of health data can strengthen decision-making and how responsible AI, supported by open, inclusive and reliable data, can contribute to more responsive healthcare systems.

The session reinforced the importance of making research and health data more accessible, collaborative and reusable to address complex healthcare challenges while advancing the responsible application of artificial intelligence.

Daystar University has commissioned its new Gate House and officially opened the Hope Centre Parking at the Athi River Main Campus, marking another milestone in the University’s continued investment in infrastructure that supports learning, security and accessibility.

The commissioning ceremony brought together members of the Daystar Company, University Management, Senate, staff, students and invited guests. Speaking during the event, Vice Chancellor Prof. Laban P. Ayiro described the new gate as more than a physical entrance, saying it represents identity, purpose, protection and new beginnings. He noted that it reflects the University’s Christian heritage and commitment to nurturing graduates of character, wisdom and purpose.

The Hope Centre Parking was also officially opened, improving accessibility and convenience as Daystar continues to expand its facilities to serve its growing community.

Addressing participants on the final day of the Conference, Daystar University Vice Chancellor, Prof. Laban Ayiro, challenged scholars to shape the future of artificial intelligence through research that is grounded in excellence and integrity.

He noted that the world's greatest journals define the future of scholarship, expressing confidence that JAIDIS has the opportunity to become one of them. Prof. Ayiro further observed that Africa must own its scholarly voice in AI, adding that Daystar University is well positioned to contribute to that vision.

He also emphasized that **virtue quotient has a significant positive effect on responsible AI**, reminding participants that ethical leadership and character are fundamental to the responsible development of artificial intelligence. Reaffirming the University's identity, Prof. Ayiro noted that Daystar carries dignity a value he said continues to define its growth and impact.

As the conference entered its final day, Prof. Muturi Wachira, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Finance, Administration and Planning, delivered a keynote on "Institutional Sustainability in the Era of AI," examining how governance and ethical leadership will shape the future of AI adoption in organizations.

Prof. Wachira observed that weak governance and the absence of ethical AI oversight undermine accountability and erode stakeholder trust. He emphasized that sustainable institutional value will depend on strong governance structures, ethical AI policies, and active oversight to ensure responsible innovation.

He further noted that while AI creates measurable economic value, lasting competitive advantage is achieved when AI investments are integrated with sound financial stewardship, social value creation, environmental responsibility, governance excellence, and effective enterprise risk management.
