Kenya is moving fast toward a digital future, but are we making sure everyone comes along?
Our ED, Martin Gathu , sat down with Maureen Akwari, Zeddy Misiga, and Yvonne Majala to discuss shaping an inclusive tech landscape for all.
Here are a few big takeaways from the conversation:
👉 Localize & Customise: Platforms must be designed with and for young people and marginalized groups to meet real community needs.

👉 Prevent Exclusion: Digital spaces shouldn't create new barriers; we must question who holds the power and who truly benefits.

👉 Defend Inclusion: We all need to actively fight for equal access and digital rights.

👉 Bridge the Gap: Tech policies in Kenya must align with on-the-ground realities to make a lasting impact.

Happy International Youth Day!

Today we join the world in celebrating all young people. At NairoBits, we believe that young people, no matter their background or circumstances, deserve the skills and confidence to shape their own future.

This year’s theme, “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations,” reflects what we see every day : learners starting from different places, but all reaching for the same thing: opportunity.The gap between context and opportunity is what our curriculum is designed to bridge.

To every young person on this journey with us, today is for you.

Ideas travel further when they're shared in person

Ruben Centre opened its doors to student leaders from Beifang International Education Group (China), alongside BIEG faculty and representatives from UNFPA China and UNFPA Kenya — part of the China–Kenya Youth Exchange Programme.

The visit was all about experiential learning: showing how digital skilling, youth empowerment and SRHR integration come together in practice, right here in our community.

Guests toured our facility in Ruben Centre, learned about the NairoBits model, and sat in on live project demos from our current cohort , peer-to-peer exchange between young people building their futures on two different continents.

Moments like these remind us why partnership matters. When young people from different corners of the world sit down together to learn from each other, real change starts to take shape.

Asante to UNFPA and BIEG for making the journey to Ruben Centre, we can't wait to see where this collaboration goes next.

Strong partnerships are built on shared purpose and a willingness to learn from one another.

Our courtesy visit to Amani Kibera provided an opportunity to better understand the organisation's work, celebrate its journey as part of the S-Bize Cohort 2025/26, and tour its new community library, a space with great potential to inspire learning, innovation, and community engagement.

Our conversations explored how digital transformation can strengthen community development through digitised learning resources, digital skills, and emerging technologies. We also identified opportunities for collaboration that expand access to education, innovation, and opportunities for young people.

We look forward to building on these conversations through partnerships that create lasting impact.

A skill learned in one room can change an entire household. That household changes a community. That community changes the economy.

That is what Skills for a Shared Future means to us. On World Youth Skills Day 2026, we celebrate every young person who walked through our doors and carried that ripple forward.
