Giovanna-E-Sylvia School for the Deaf

Giovanna-E-Sylvia School for the Deaf Started in January 2009 and is the only fully fledged deaf school in Kenya. It has children in primary & secondary of ages ranging from 3 - 18 years.

we have a total 25 students.22 boarding 3 day schooling. many children too poor & unable to pay fees The founders’ dream was to have the first fully fledged deaf school in Nairobi, with studies right from primary to secondary school for the less fortunate members of society. The school has since gone from a boarding school with students aged between 3 and 20 years of age in four classrooms and progressed to an eight classroom facility with the construction of additional classrooms, a small library, laboratory, screening room, and toilets, all with the assistance of the Kenyan Ministry of Gender; these cater for Nursery, Pre-Unit, Standard 1 to 8, Autism, and Adult Education units. Giovanna-e-Sylvia is headed by a Board of Trustees, that consists of two of the school's original founders, who remain active in it's administration and provide policy guidelines on the day-to-day running of the school. As the school has grown, we now have pupils from all over Kenya with a lot of children coming from the slum areas around Zimmerman e.g. Soweto, Njathaini, Ngomongo, Marurui, Baba Dogo, and a large number from as far as Western and Central Regions.
