Eugene Okoth Karani’s journey with the International Scholars Program began with a major sacrifice from his family. His father sold a piece of land to raise the money he needed to enroll in the program.

Donald Odhiambo Abok's journey to Virginia Commonwealth University came with another major milestone, his very first experience aboard a plane.

Having never flown before, Donald departed from JKIA for his maiden international flight, beginning a journey that would take him through Brussels to Newark, his port of entry into the United States, before proceeding to Richmond, Virginia.

Leaving home came with mixed emotions. Donald expresses immense gratitude to his family for standing by him throughout his journey and admits that he will deeply miss them as he begins this new chapter away from home.

He also thanks the International Scholars Program for the guidance and support he received throughout his study abroad journey.
