In 1994, PALM (the L&EF) received a UNESCO Recognition Award for meritorious work in literacy within Kenya and Eastern Africa. PALM has undertaken work in Tanzania, Somaliland, Uganda, Burundi, Rwanda, Namibia, Ethiopia, Madagascar, Mauritius and S. In 2007, the board of PALM initiated the Africa Office to take care of the regional opportunities that were beginning to emerge.

Godspeed Bible Translation and Literacy

Literacy matters:
The translation of the Bible into the Koma, Molo, and Nyamusa languages in South Sudan is facilitating a significant doorway in language development. This initiative represents a significant milestone, as it will provide these languages with a standardized written form, promoting literacy and preserving the culture within these communities.

We are grateful for the dedication of the translators who are currently developing primers. This process will help establish the alphabet for these languages, enabling the creation of reading materials. A journey that affirms a powerful truth that every language matters, everyone deserves to hear the gospel, and every heart longs for hope.

Celebrating Burkina Faso, Africa!

The following is one example of why we celebrate what God is doing in Burkina Faso.

"My name is Traoré and I would like to share my testimony with you. Some time ago, I couldn't read. This was a great source of frustration for me... One day I heard about your literacy program... Over the weeks, I learned to pronounce my first words, to form sentences, and finally, to read. Your program changed my life and helped build a stronger family, based on mutual respect and education."

You can read Traoré's full testimony and more good news worth celebrating in Literacy and Evangelism Burkina Faso's Annual Report. Just follow the link below.

Happy international literacy day

Happy international literacy day

Did you know over 1 billion people in the world cannot read in their language? Over 100 million children do not have access to school. Women, disabled, and the very poor are the highest percentage of illiteracy in the world. The Bible is a locked book to them. You can make a difference! Check out Literacy and Evangelism International www.literacyevangelism.ca (Canada) or www.literacyevangelism.org (USA) to see how you can make a difference: become a volunteer tutor, pray for the ministry, give financially. We are also looking for missionaries.
