Lapid Leaders Africa LAPID exists to ignite the prowess of the next generation of African leaders & reimagine the possible

Our program ignites prowess by developing the leader in you holistically, pairing you with life coaches and mentors and delivering leadership experiences that change mindsets, build self-awareness, and cultivate exceptional character and skills to lead in the workplace. The program is divided into three distinct parts – Lead Self, Lead Marketplace and Lead Africa.

llar is to build your self-awareness through an intentional journey of self-discovery. We will assign you a personal coach who you will work with to explore what you want to do with your life. This will enable you to have a clearer sense of who you are, clarify your vision and purpose, build a strong sense of identity as an African changemaker and inevitably build the self-confidence to be who God created you to Be.

2 Lead the market place

The aim of this pillar is to position you to succeed by sharpening your job-readiness skills and building a personal brand that’s very relevant to today’s highly competitive world. You will get to network with various corporate and business leaders, practice the various skills learned in the module. You will work with a career coach to prepare your job readiness assets including curriculum vitae, LinkedIn and interviews. Stand out and equip yourself with the high-demand skills employers want.

3 Lead Africa

We will equip you with the skill and the tools needed to be an exceptional entrepreneur or intrapreneur if employed. We will provide you with many opportunities to discover your purpose, network and build relationships with business leaders and coaches who will guide you through your business even long after you complete your structured classes. Get equipped with a builders mindset to turn problems into opportunities, sustainable businesses and live a purposeful life.

Africa does not lack ideas.

The harder question is: what does it take to turn an idea into infrastructure capable of reaching scale?

In 2012, Jeff Schon saw something that did not make sense.

👉 Kenya had millions of children — but no dedicated free-to-air educational television channel built specifically for them.

So he began building one.

It took years of planning, partnerships, fundraising and persistence. Then, in March 2020, Akili Kids! went live — just as schools across Kenya were closing because of the pandemic.

What began as an idea became infrastructure.

And Jeff's journey raises a much bigger question:

👉 What would become possible if African builders did not have to assemble the ecosystems around their ideas almost from scratch?

Because innovation is not only about having a brilliant idea.

WHY UNIVERSITY MTAANI?

University education should not stop at the university gates.

That is the idea behind University Mtaani — an initiative of Tangaza University through the Institute for Social Transformation (IST) that takes learning closer to communities and creates space for communities to become active participants in solving the challenges they face.

From health and sanitation to water, waste management and community development, University Mtaani connects what is learned in the classroom with what communities experience every day.

And this is why today's University Mtaani Symposium 2026 matters.

The conversation on sanitation, public health and human dignity is not separate from education — it is education in action.

At IST, we believe transformation happens when knowledge meets lived experience, communities have a voice, and learning leads to action.

OUR FREEDOM IS INHERITED. OUR RESPONSIBILITY IS NOT.

The women who came before us did not inherit a finished nation.

They inherited struggle, exclusion and institutions that were never designed with them in mind.

And still, they built.

They organised communities, protected land, challenged power and created pathways that did not exist before them.

Their work expanded the freedom we inherited.

But every generation also inherits unfinished work.

👉 The question is what we will do with ours.

Will we use our influence only to advance ourselves?
Or will we build institutions, opportunities and futures that expand what becomes possible for others?

This is why Women of Purpose exists.

Not simply to celebrate successful women, but to gather women willing to take responsibility for what their leadership can build.

In 2026, we return under the theme: Built for the Marathon.

Because the future others inherit will be shaped by what we choose to build now.
