The Tangaza University community today gathered for the University Community Mass, officially opening the Ecumenical Season of Creation under the theme “Living Water: Faith, Innovation and Collective Climate Action.”

The Mass was celebrated by Rev. Fr. Stephen Makagutu, OFM and organised by the Laudato Si’ Movement, Tangaza University, and Tangaza University Students Association (TUSA).

In his homily, Fr. Stephen challenged us to reflect on what comes from within us. Referring to the image of water, he asked:
“What type of water is flowing from our hearts? Does that water renew or contaminate?”

He reminded us that our words and actions should bring love, mercy, justice, joy, care for others and care for creation.

He also stressed that caring for creation cannot be separated from caring for people. We cannot plant trees and protect nature while ignoring a neighbour who is hungry or has lost hope.

As the Season of Creation begins, let what flows from our hearts bring life to our neighbours, our communities and our common home.

The Institute for Social Transformation (IST) is hosting a three-day PhD Academic Writing Workshop facilitated by Prof. Mellitus Nyongesa Wanyama of Kabarak University, an accomplished scholar with wide experience working with universities and researchers across Africa.

Opening the workshop, Prof. Steve Akoth, Director of Postgraduate Studies at Tangaza University, reminded scholars that “any great work requires constant practice,” encouraging them to write consistently and produce research that is competitive, fundable, socially relevant and impactful.

The workshop is giving participants practical skills in academic writing, research and publication, while also encouraging gender-responsive and inclusive scholarship and strengthening the culture of research at Tangaza University.

The Dean of the School of Education at Tangaza University was recently on Ensoko TV, sharing her thoughts on Kenya’s Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) and the changing needs of education.
The discussion looked at how Tangaza is preparing learners through a practical, learner-centred approach that connects classroom learning with real-life situations. She also spoke about the role of partnerships with schools and industry, as well as Community Service Learning, in helping students develop skills they can use beyond the classroom.

Our students from the MBA in Social Entrepreneurship and Sustainability showed us what is possible when academic knowledge is put into action. They successfully co-hosted the Rooted Youth Summit here at Tangaza University, creating a safe and compassionate space for young people to engage with important issues, including mental health and emotional well-being, addiction prevention, digital wellness, family dynamics, and resilient living.

We are proud of our student leaders for turning ideas learned in the classroom into meaningful conversations and real-world social impact.

Last week, Tangaza University’s Vice-Chancellor, together with members of the University Council, had the honour of meeting Prime Cabinet Secretary Hon. Musalia Mudavadi for discussions on the future of education in Kenya.

The engagement focused on the proposed education reforms currently before Parliament and the need for stronger collaboration between Government, universities, faith-based institutions and other stakeholders in shaping Kenya’s learning ecosystem.

The discussions highlighted the importance of preparing young Kenyans not only for the jobs available today, but also for the opportunities of tomorrow, equipping them with the skills, knowledge and confidence to compete locally and globally.

As a faith-based institution, Tangaza University remains committed to contributing to conversations and partnerships that strengthen education and help prepare a generation ready to build Kenya’s future.
