Congratulations to Prof. Miriam Kinyua for being named a finalist for the 2025 Women in Nuclear (WiN) Global Honorary Award!

Prof. Kinyua has made outstanding contributions in advancing nuclear techniques for agriculture, particularly in wheat farming, where she has championed the development of high-yielding and disease-resistant varieties to combat threats like wheat stem rust (Ug99).
Her work has been pivotal in safeguarding food security and strengthening sustainable farming in Kenya and beyond.

We celebrate her leadership, innovation, and the global recognition of her impact in harnessing nuclear science for food and agriculture. ^I.N

🌟 Celebrating Women in STEM 🌟

As we conclude the Women in STEM Month, we proudly celebrate our distinguished alumna, Dr. Catherine Nyambura, who graduated with a Ph.D. in Physics (Radiation and Environmental Physics) in December 2023. Her groundbreaking research focused on naturally occurring radionuclides in environmental samples, radon, thoron and progeny in dwellings, and water quality analysis. Specifically, she determined the levels of heavy metals and ionizing radiation in the Kilimambogo area, contributing significantly to our understanding of human exposure to ionizing radiation from naturally occurring radioactive materials (NORMs).

Dr. Nyambura’s exciting and impactful journey has seen her findings presented at international conferences and published in peer-reviewed journals, including:

Her Ph.D. research was supervised by Prof. Nadir Hashim, Dr. Margaret Chege, and Prof. Shinji Tokonami (Hirosaki University, Japan), and funded by the African Development Bank (AfDB) through the Ministry of Higher Education in Kenya.

Today, Dr. Nyambura serves as a faculty member in the Department of Physical Sciences at the University of Embu, continuing to inspire the next generation of scientists.

In terms of ball possession, the Moroccans dominated the game ... but they could not beat the hosts who were reduced to 10 early in the match 🤔 ... the 12th man on the pitch played a big role 👍🏾

Well ... in addition to being a powerhouse in football, Morocco 🇲🇦 also has many centres of excellence in the field of nuclear science and technology. They host the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) - Internet Reactor Laboratory (IRL) using the research reactor at the Centre for Nuclear Energy, Science and Technology (CNESTEN) in Rabat. They also host the IAEA Postgraduate Educational Course (PGEC) in Radiation Protection and Safety of Radiation Sources for French speaking countries in Africa. They have IAEA Regional Designated Centres (RDC) in various peaceful applications of nuclear science and technology.
