On Tuesday, 11 August, Karura Forest was filled with the energy of the Prudential team as they came together for a special run, a fitting celebration of teamwork, wellness and a shared commitment to making a positive difference.

Friends of Karura Forest (FKF) and the Karura Forest Environmental Education Trust (KFEET) had the honour of hosting Rita Knapp (Million Dollar Round Table, Chicago), Gwen Kinisu (CEO, Prudential Kenya), and their team.

The occasion also provided an opportunity for KFEET Management Committee Chairperson, Mr Rajesh Shah, EBS, to extend a warm message of appreciation to Prudential for its generous support towards forest restoration and environmental education. This support will enable KFEET to bring more than 700 schoolchildren from under-resourced communities to the forest through the CBC Outreach Programme.

A very special and heartfelt thank you to Prudential plc and the MDRT for this wonderful gesture. Your support will leave a legacy that reaches far beyond the trees we planted that day, because when we help a child fall in love with a forest, we help give that forest a champion for life.

Through Environmrntal education, we learn to appreciate such small but important parts of our ecosystem. When visisting their habitat, let us keep our voices low, avoid disturbing them, and leave their natural home just as we found it.

Sometimes We are Too Lazy to Fly!

Even the Eared Commodore, a common butterfly in our forests, sometimes needs a break from all that flying!

Spotted perched on the ground, this little butterfly seemed to have decided, "Today, we are keeping it low!”

Nature reminds us that there’s always something interesting to notice when we slow down and look closely.

From the excitement of arriving at Karura Forest to learning great things during our auditorium session, every moment is part of the learning journey.
Through environmental education, children get to connect classroom learning with nature, ask questions, share ideas and build a deeper appreciation for the environment around them.

The Busy World Beneath Our Eyes 🐜

There is so much happening in the forest understory that we often walk past without noticing.

A closer look reveals black ants busily tending to tiny bugs. What may seem like a small moment is actually part of the fascinating web of life happening quietly beneath the vegetation.

The forest is always busy we just need to slow down and look closely enough to see it.

Looks like the Sykes’ monkeys have discovered their very own zip line.

From the top of the chain-link fence separating the office area from the KFEET field, they put on quite a show, walking along the wire and turning an ordinary day into a fun wildlife moment.

These playful encounters remind us that Karura is home to wildlife that continues to surprise us even around our working spaces. Moments like these also create wonderful opportunities for environmental education and learning about how wildlife interacts with its surroundings.
