This week, Faraja Social Transformation Centre in collaboration with Faraja Foundation, a leading organization dedicated to offender rehabilitation and reintegration, and the Kenya Prison Services launched an intensive two-week training program on basic counselling and communication skills. This groundbreaking initiative aims to empower officers responsible for handling children and youth in conflict at the Kamiti Youth Correctional and Training Centrein an effort to support the correctional process and support successful reintegration of boys into society.
With a focus on personal development and effective decision-making, this transformative training program addresses crucial topics such as self-awareness, parenting skills, and communication techniques. We aim to empower them to bring about positive attitudes and behavioral changes among the inmates. This will ultimately enhance the youth’s self-awareness and equip them with the necessary tools to make informed choices and lead fulfilling lives upon release.
The launching was witnessed by SACGP Bison Madegwa, the Kenya Prisons Nairobi Regional Commander, who is in charge of all the Prison Institutions within the Nairobi Region

99 inmates at Kamiti Main Prison and 104 inmates from Kamiti Medium Prison attended a Peer Counselors Skills Training Course delivered by trainers and counselors from Faraja Social Transformation Centre. According to the Correctional Institution's management, the training was timely and very well received by the participants. The training has been known to produce the following effects: lessened violent behavior; increased pro-social behavior and decreased negative, self-destructive behavior; increased the ability to plan ahead and choose effective solutions to problems; improved self-image, self-awareness, social and emotional adjustment; increased acquisition of knowledge; improved classroom behavior; gains in self-control and handling of interpersonal problems and coping with anxiety; and improved constructive conflict resolution with peers, impulse control and popularity. To complement this training, Faraja Foundation donated milk and bread to the inmates every day of the session to motivate them while they undertook the 5-day course.

Faraja Social Transformation Centre joins Tangaza University College The Leaders Guild and other partners to bring to you this years Youth Conference aiming at creating awareness on the importance of peaceful elections and responsible participation of the youth population and to empower the youth to be advocates of ethical leadership for a better future. as this will be happening this Saturday 16th July 2022. Let us walk this journey of Personal and Social Transformation with the Youth.

125 Prison Officers drawn from the Kenya Prisons Service have undergone a personal and social transformation training dubbed Performance for Change. Prison Officers have the challenging task of interacting closely with inmates on a day-to-day basis. The officers are the agents of behavior change and the rehabilitation process. For behavior change to be more sustainable, the agents must recognize the critical role they play in their client's behavior change process and identify and address those areas in their behavior that may have a negative impact on their clients. The training, funded by Faraja Foundation, began on 20th June 2022 to 8th July 2022 and comprised of three cohorts, who were later awarded NITA certified certificates.
