What if farmers could understand what their land can grow before planting a single seed? 🌱

At the AYSC Climate Hackathon, our students brought technology, AI and agriculture together to tackle exactly that.

Their team built an agricultural mapping system that uses satellite imagery and reliable datasets to predict the minerals available within specific farm boundaries.

The goal? Help farmers make more informed decisions about what crops are best suited to their land — and even assess potential land before acquiring it.

The hackathon, held at the Technical University of Kenya (TUK) and organised by IESS and partners, brought young people together to build solutions at the intersection of technology, AI and climate action.

We’re incredibly proud to see our students take their skills beyond the classroom and use them to solve problems that matter.

Another project from our Product Management Class of 2026 !

Meet VolunTia; built by Stella Cherotich .
The problem: skilled volunteers want to contribute, but face vague listings and open-ended commitments so they disengage before they even start.

Meanwhile, NGOs and civic groups need specific skills for specific projects, but rely on personal networks and end up with generalists, or no one at all.
Stella’s solution: one brief, one application, one match. NGOs post a scoped brief outcome, skills, and timeline, no vague asks allowed. Volunteers see it ranked in a skills-matched feed and apply in one tap. The NGO reviews, selects, and the project starts within days.

Another project from our Product Management Class of 2026

Meet CareBridge — built by Nyambura Murithi.
The problem: for working parents in Kenya, finding trusted childcare when your regular arrangement falls through is genuinely hard — and stressful, fast. There’s no easy way to know which daycare centers nearby are actually reliable.
Nyambura’s solution: a mobile-responsive platform connecting parents with verified daycare centers close to them, so finding trusted childcare doesn’t mean starting from zero every time.
She grounded it in real numbers too — from a 3-5 million person addressable market of urban working parents in Kenya, down to a focused early market of women’s church groups in Utawala, where trust and community referrals already run deep.

This is what good product thinking looks like at the earliest stage: knowing exactly who you’re building for before you build anything at all.

This week, we’re spotlighting projects from our Product Management Class of 2026.
Meet PartsBridge — built by Josephat as part of our Product Management Class of 2026 🔧
The problem: Kenya’s automotive aftermarket runs on a trust gap. 30-40% of spare parts in open markets are counterfeit, substandard, or mislabeled — leaving car owners vulnerable to fraud that can cost over KSh 133,000 in a single incident.
Josephat’s solution: a WhatsApp-native verification layer — no app to download, no inventory to manage. Just a vetted, rated network of dealers and mechanics, with transparent pricing car owners can check before they ever set foot in a garage.
It’s a great example of what this cohort was trained to do — not just design a feature, but find a real, painful problem and build the simplest possible thing that solves it.

Our Product Management Class of 2026 officially graduated this past Saturday 🎓

Over 10 weeks, this cohort learned to think like product managers — solving real problems, not just building features. On Saturday, that work came full circle as they took the stage to present what they’ve built.
Huge thank you to Product Kitchen, who delivered the course, and instructors Dominic Shanja and Thaiya Waronja, for the time and expertise they poured into this cohort 🙏
