Megan 🦄 (5/5)

Megan is known for a lot of things on this team. To Priyanka, she is Me(g)an. To Arjun, she is sadistic. To Michelle, she is a tyrant. To me, she is an angel baby who can do no wrong 🪽

A lot of people seem to notice that Megan and I share the same surname. No, she is not my sister, and I think it’s crucial to note that we also share a lot of other things in common 😡 From sharing the same role in 2025, to sharing a closet of only Brandy Melville & Hollister, and to sharing a TikTok of streak of 9 days wholly consisting of K***** S** videos… if you see Megan & I matching on any day of the tournament - don’t be surprised!

If you hear a weird baby voice speaking in SOLELY short expressions in Kenya (“ha”, “erhm, “huh!”), turn around and look down - Megan might be a few steps behind you! But despite her tiny baby personality, I assure you Megan is a force to be reckoned with as a teammate and as an opponent. She steers prep like a sergeant in the military (like Sergeant Ong 🪖 iykyk..), and guides debates with tactical precision. I live in awe every day as Meg’s teammate - not only because of the “generational talent” (, 2026) that she is, but also because I can’t believe this monster is the same girl who would make homemade Minecraft fidgets with me to fidget trade in bootcamp.

As I am writing this, Megan is sleeping on my shoulder, hugging our tiger mascot tightly, on the bus to the opening ceremony. Despite the team’s efforts in blanketly designating her as a terrorist, I think Meg is scariest because of her duality… she will soon wake up and call me dumb for “looking at her in a peculiar way” - but she will make up for it by entertaining the team with her new stim of the day (past ones include: “Welcome back to my YouTube channel!”, “Sweet cherry piiiieee”, “well yes” (, 2026)” 🫰🏻

Megan is STILL our lovable demonic chihuahua, and we wouldn’t have her any other way (daphne, 2025).

Priyanka 🐮 (4/5)

From bringing knives to class back in our MIDP days to stocking our bootcamp Airbnb with enough food to rival a small grocery store, Priyanka has always been a little… peculiar, to say the least. Thankfully, that same eccentricity is what keeps our training sheets perfectly labelled and our training recordings so meticulously catalogued that nothing ever goes missing.

As the newest heir to the Gunalan dynasty, she has inherited the family trademark brand of sassy authoritarianism. Whether it’s policing (fake) Arjun over everything he does or kicking us out from her house at 6am sharp after a sleepover, Yanks manages to issue orders that everyone ends up following.

This season, Pri has fully embraced her role as the team’s mother - enforcing a strict 8pm bedtime, waking up for 7am Pilates and yoga every day, and chauffeuring everyone around KL without complaint. She also single-handedly keeps the fruit industry alive, consuming it for breakfast, lunch and dinner. If Evan ever lets her visit a Kenyan grocery store, we may be looking at a nationwide fruit shortage ☹️

Unfortunately, that competence doesn’t quite extend to technology. Yanker once had a full-blown panic attack thinking she’d lost an entire tournament’s worth of Zoom recordings, only to realise they had been sitting in the Zoom folder all along 😐 Nor does it extend to packing, as she arrived at bootcamp with a mountain of crumpled clothes and an impressive collection of trophies.

However, don’t let her organised chaos fool you. When prep descends into a complete mess and my sentences stop resembling English, Riyan somehow turns them into a refined, devastating first speaker speech every single time.

Michelle 🐋 (3/5)

外星人” (wài xīng rén) is the Chinese word for alien.
An alien, emerging from the depths of the Sarawakian jungles, has infiltrated Team Malaysia. The alien assumes a human form and attempts to mimic our ways of speaking and living, with varying degrees of success.
This alien likes tea-flavoured ice cream with chocolate chips. Survival (happiness) depends on consuming 1 scoop of this every day.
She is left-handed, never capitalised any letters, and only uses G-Soft 0.7 blue, which cannot be found in any bookstores in Kuala Lumpur (i tried).
To camouflage into society, she picks Snoopy and whales as her preferred flavour of capitalism and self-proclaims to be “happy, kind and quirky.” But, given the choice, she has chosen to NOT end world hunger, and dreams of becoming a lawyer.
She is dangerous & aggressive toward male fatties in Team Malaysia, but she is actually quite easy to kill. All you need to do is add 4 drops of Buldak sauce into her food, and within the first bite, she convulses and need 1 gallon of Chagee as an antidote. She can only take half a packet of Maggie Kari, max.

“外星人” is the Chinese word for alien. But the literal translation is “outer-space person”.
She sings so beautifully in secret (hidden somewhere on YouTube), she could even be an angel.
This alien led the dev once, unassumingly bet against me twice, and is 8 chilli pan mees deep in debt (1/8 claimed as of this post).
She has amazing talent in debate, probably has 100 more hidden talents, and a music taste that is out-of-this-world.
But perhaps most unusual of all, she is so deeply human. Who does she keep in her Kuching house basement as a specimen to study this behaviour from? Who knows.
Beware the alien of Team Malaysia, Michelle.

Arjun 🐶🐕 (2/5)

For someone who can articulate and convey analysis well, it is unfortunate that this intelligence does not always translate into our non-debate lives. In January, I asked Jaya if I could buy his Digi off him, and he replied that he was on a family plan and couldn’t sell the phone line….

Unfortunately, this clarity of mind in rounds also does not extend to recognising appropriate moments for concentration. During prep, with my Prop 1 speech due in under four minutes, Jaya and Michelle were instead engaged in a deeply consequential discussion about which pen colours they intended to bring to Kenya.

On another note, did you know Armenia apparently have no bugs? Did you know their water is colder? If you have spent more than ten minutes with him, you probably do. During a waterfall hike, we were treated to a running commentary on Armenian landscapes and ecological nuances of how the bugs hibernate so you don’t even see them. Team Malaysia has learned far more about Armenia than we ever anticipated.

Perhaps the most defining trait of our male-minority teammate is that he is always down to makan. He will split food, send Instagram reels of new cafes, and somehow contribute more to a pre-Worlds food list than to actual Kenya prep. The most tragic event on the flight to Kenya was him being the very last row to be served food.

But for all the headaches he causes, what stands out most is the effort he puts into the people around him. A five-hour bus ride from Pahang to Kuala Lumpur is apparently no obstacle when there are friends to see, cafes to visit, and side quests to pursue. Whether it’s debating, hiking, carrying Malaysia’s haul for cultural night snacks, or disappearing off to Myanmar for a UWC project less than a week after returning home, Arjun somehow always shows up.

Unfortunately for the two-thirds of our team who can drive in Kuala Lumpur, this means we will continue picking him up from the LRT until he finally gets his licence.

It’s time to meet the team! 🐯

Andrea 🐰 (1/5)

You thought you’ve seen the last of her, but by way of divine intervention (alterations to the constitution), Andrea has returned for her fourth season in WSDC - this time, from a different continent! Our beloved capitana comprises one half of the East Malaysians, and, in lieu of a formidable male minority to butt heads with, has graduated to “***-*******” Arjun J. for eating his “delicious” nasi lemak during training.

If you hear the muffled sound of clanging pots and pans in the morning, it may just be Team Malaysia attempting to rouse Andrea from slumber; many a tournament begins with team-wide panic, and no less than two (2) missed calls in her phone, which, along with all her other technology, has been configured in Italian. 🇮🇹

Speaking of, lo sapevi che Andrea parla un italiano elementare? Not that the rest of us would know if she were bluffing! Regardless, conversations with Andrea (in English) are NEVER boring, whether she’s telling us about who Emily Ha (did not know who this was pre-Andrea) went to prom with, buying freeze-dried strawberries 🍓 and skittles off Shopee at 12am, finger-hearting during feedback, spreading propaganda about being bullied by her teammates, catching up to her 2739484 different IAs... 🫤

Make no mistake, though: For Andrea, the hardest parts of a tournament are waking up for it and getting there, and she has no problem catching up in actual debates. From navigating training and tournament schedules from the other side of the earth, to navigating convoluted rounds with stunning clarity, you can count on Andrea to keep Malaysia on track. 🛤️
