THE UPPER ROOM EXPERIENCE (21)

Pentecost (2)

Before His death and after His resurrection, Jesus spent time in communion with His disciples, in the upper room. However, before ascending back to heaven, Jesus specifically asked them to wait for the empowerment of the Holy Spirit; so, they all returned to the upper room for an encounter.

Acts 1:13-14 NKJV
“[13] And when they had entered, they went up into the upper room where they were staying: Peter, James, John, and Andrew; Philip and Thomas; Bartholomew and Matthew; James the son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot; and Judas the son of James. [14] These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers.”

1. THE WOMEN WERE INCLUDED (1)

In obedience to Jesus’ instructions, 120 people gathered in the upper room to wait in prayer and supplication. What is very unique about the people gathered in the upper room on this occasion, however, is that the women were included!
The record of those who were in the upper room praying and waiting for the promised Holy Spirit, gives the names of the eleven remaining apostles but mentions no other men, except a reference to Jesus’ brothers.

However, the author deliberately mentions that the women and Mary, the mother of Jesus were also present. The women had not been left behind or sent back home; and no one objected to they being there! They were all together, both men and women, and continued with one accord, in prayer and supplication.

Jesus had included the women in the mandate of the Great Commission; they were also to wait for the empowerment of the Holy Spirit; together with the men, in the upper room! The Lord is STILL seeking to include women in the humongous task of the Great Commission! The truth is that, this situation that we have, where women are excluded, undermined and relegated to a subordinate position and role by the Church does not serve God’s purpose!

A MAJOR SETBACK

It is a major setback to the huge task of Great Commission; that more than half of God’s workforce has been made redundant. This is because for too long, the Church has operated under-capacity by insisting on relegating women, and limiting and under-utilizing their callings, gifts and talents.

However, God is changing this, and raising and releasing women to worship and serve Him, alongside men. The Father is opening His word to women and giving them understanding and revelation of who they are in Christ! God is releasing His daughters to worship and work!!

Galatians 3:26-28 NKJV
“[26] For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. [27] For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. [28] There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.”

Women, it is time for us to align ourselves to the move of the Spirit of God in the Church and in our nations. It is time to prepare and present ourselves as vessels of honour, in the full confidence that God needs us in His Kingdom and will use us too, to bring glory to His name.

2 Timothy 2:21 ESV
“Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonourable, he will be a vessel for honourable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work.” AMEN!!!

Pentecost (1)

Before Jesus ascended back into heaven, He reiterated His instructions to His disciples to wait for the empowerment of the Holy Spirit.

After the ascension of Jesus, the disciples returned to the upper room to wait for the Holy Spirit. There, the Church was birthed in power. Several things occurred before the eventual outpouring of the Holy Spirit, which we must learn from, as part of our own upper room experience.

However, before we discuss what lessons we can learn, I would like to share with you part of a word of prophecy that I received on 17th June 2017…

GOD IS ABOUT TO DO A NEW THING

The Holy Spirit impresses strongly on my heart that the LORD is about to do a new thing in this land, and it is going to be sudden and swift. God is going to answer the prayers of the remnant and move and act very quickly by His Spirit to begin the restorative process of turning the UK (and the nations) back to Himself and His Word, Ways, Plans and Purposes. The time is NOW!

The Wind of God is about to blow over this land again, swiftly. It will come as a wind of judgment to blow away the chaff and burn the dross. (Malachi 3:1-7). It will come as the breath to restore life to the army of God. (Ezekiel 37:9-19). It will come as a wind and force of power against every obstacle and resistance, in order to create a path and make way for His people and Kingdom in the land. (Exodus 14:21-22). It will come as the wind of provision to supply all that is needed by the Church. (Numbers 11:31-23).

The Holy Spirit will come as He did at Pentecost to empower the Church to fulfil the Great Commission, even beyond the shores of Britain. (Acts 1:5,8). The destiny of the UK (and the nations) is being restored and will be fulfilled by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Therefore, this is the time to pray and seek God’s face, more earnestly than ever. This is the time to sanctify and consecrate ourselves. This is the time for the remnant to come together in love and unity. This is the time to break down the dividing walls between us and let love rule. This is the time for the Body of Christ to be one and together with one accord...

Acts 2:1-2 NKJV
“When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. [2] And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting.”

The Spirit of God is going to move suddenly and swiftly, as people meet in small groups, in homes and in corporate gatherings and meetings, if the criteria are met - hearts consecrated, in unity and love and together with one accord.

Indeed, the Wind of Change is coming and is here!!! May we, like the five wise virgins, be prepared for His coming. In Jesus’ name!

🟣🟠🔴PRAYER-WALKING OUR COMMUNITIES TODAY - WOMEN WALKING WEDNESDAY 🔴🟠🟣

John 4:35 NLT
“You know the saying, 'Four months between planting and harvest.' But I say, wake up and look around. The fields are already ripe for harvest.”

There is a harvest of souls ready and waiting in our communities. People are looking for a solution and are desperate for truth and change. The Lord Jesus Christ is the Solution, Truth and Change that they are looking for! We must rise up and proclaim the Gospel and teach the people to know the truth! (John 14:6; Matthew 28:18-20)

PRAYERS AND DECLARATIONS

Micah 4:13 NKJV
"Arise and thresh, O daughter of Zion; for I will make your horn iron, and I will make your hooves bronze; you shall beat in pieces many peoples; I will consecrate their gain to the LORD, and their substance to the Lord of the whole earth."

2 Timothy 4:2 TPT
“Proclaim the Word of God and stand upon it no matter what! Rise to the occasion and preach when it is convenient and when it is not. Preach in the full expression of the Holy Spirit—with wisdom and patience as you instruct and teach the people.”

As we prayer-walk our neighbourhoods and communities today, let us continue to pray for the Church to be bold in proclaiming Jesus Christ, the Way, the Truth and the Life, to the people.

1. Let’s continue to declare, “Your Kingdom come, Your will be done in Britain, our nations and the nations of the earth, as it is in heaven.”

2. Pray earnestly that the Father would have mercy and visit the land again through His Holy Spirit and bring a fresh wave of revival. (John 16:8)

3 Pray that the Lord will embolden the local churches in your community to rise up and share the Good News of Jesus Christ. (Matthew 28:18-20)

Acts 4:29-31 NLT
“[28] And now, O Lord, hear their threats, and give us, your servants, great boldness in preaching your word. [30] Stretch out your hand with healing power; may miraculous signs and wonders be done through the name of your holy servant Jesus." [31] After this prayer, the meeting place shook, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit. Then they preached the word of God with boldness.”

4. Pray that the Lord will bind the god of this world who blinds the people of the world and stops them from believing and receiving the Gospel. (2 Corinthians 4:4)

5. Let us pray that the Holy Spirit will convict and bring many to repentance and salvation, irrespective of their ethnicity, religion or status. (John 16:8)

6. Pray that many will receive the grace and faith, and come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. (Ephesians 2:8-9)

7. Praise and thank God for all the prayer walks going on around the UK and in other nations. Thank the Father that He will hear our prayers and answer us. In Jesus’ name. Amen!

After The Resurrection (7)

Today’s Church has a humongous task on her hands: to convince the world with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Right now, our witness is compromised, and the world does not really believe our testimony; actually, many of us do not even have convincing testimonies of Jesus Christ.

Why should the world believe us, without the tangible evidence of God’s power accompanying our message? What would convince the world and those held captive by Satan that God has sent us with the Good News that is able to set them free?

4b. WAIT FOR THE HOLY SPIRIT (2)

When Jesus began His ministry, He was full of the Holy Spirit and had substantial proof that the Father had sent Him. The early disciples also had the powerful works of God accompanying their preaching of the Gospel. Apostle Paul referred to the power that accompanied his preaching…

1 Corinthians 2:4-5 NKJV
_“[4] And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, [5] that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.”_

If Jesus Himself, and the early apostles and disciples needed the Holy Spirit in order to effectively proclaim the Gospel and build the Church, we need Him much more, over 2000 years later.

Unfortunately, our witness of Jesus Christ is greatly undermined because there is little evidence of the Holy Spirit’s dynamic power in the Church today. We do not have tangible proof of who we are and of the God who sent us. We lack the power to boldly proclaim the Good News, and even when we do, the supernatural works of God do not accompany us!

This is the dilemma of the Church and the reason why we need to wait on God for the Holy Spirit; we desperately need a fresh move of the Spirit upon the Church in every nation!

Luke 24:49 NLT
_"And now I will send the Holy Spirit, just as my Father promised. But stay here in the city until the Holy Spirit comes and fills you with power from heaven."_

God is calling us into the upper room to endow us with power; we must heed to Jesus’ instructions and WAIT for the empowerment of the Holy Spirit. To wait does not mean to sit down, twiddle our thumbs and do nothing. To wait is to position ourselves with anticipation, in the presence of God; it is to earnestly set our hearts and faces towards heaven, acknowledge our inadequacy, and fervently cry out to God for the Holy Spirit to come upon us and activate and empower us to share the Good News of the Kingdom.

Ten years ago, I was commissioned into ministry by Apostle Jennifer Abigail Lawson-Wallace and Rev Cobby Wallace. I will forever honor and appreciate them for believing in me and for calling out the treasure of God within me, even when all I carried was a rough sketch of His promises over my life.

Looking back, these ten years have been marked by abundant grace, countless victories, invaluable lessons, and profound growth. Through every season, I have experienced God's love in deeper dimensions and witnessed His transforming work in my life, leadership, character, and calling.

True to His Word, He has taken me from glory to glory (2 Corinthians 3:18), faithfully leading me step by step as I followed the Master, my Lord and King. There have been challenges, stretching seasons, and moments that required unwavering faith, but through it all, His grace has proven sufficient and His faithfulness unfailing.

As I celebrate this milestone of leading Women in Tune Kenya for the past decade, my heart is filled with gratitude for all the Lord has done and great anticipation for all that is yet to come. I smile at the days ahead because I know whom I have believed, and I am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I have committed unto Him against that day (2 Timothy 1:12).

The best part of this journey is knowing that the One who began this good work is faithful to complete it (Philippians 1:6). Here's to greater impact, deeper surrender, and even more glorious expressions of His purpose in the years ahead.

To God alone be all the glory.

I deeply appreciate everyone who has walked this journey with me at one stage or the other, my family both immediate and extended.

I am one greatly helped by the Holy Spirit and by men and women placed on my path.

Thank you Liberty Church of Christ, Kongowea & Pneuma Feast - Youth Concert, Mombasa Committee for the very thoughtful celebration yesterday as God commissioned the assembly!

After The Resurrection (6)

There is no way we can know the full script or extent of the discourse between Jesus and His disciples in the upper room, after His resurrection. We can only imagine that He would share with them His Kingdom plans and purposes for the earth, and how they were an essential part of God’s agenda to propagate the Good News on the earth.

However, knowing the enormity of the task that He was leaving His disciples, Jesus made a promise to them, which is as relevant to us today as it was to them then.

Luke 24:49 NLT
_"And now I will send the Holy Spirit, just as my Father promised. But stay here in the city until the Holy Spirit comes and fills you with power from heaven."_

4. WAIT FOR THE HOLY SPIRIT (1)

Knowing that they were mere men and incapable of accomplishing this huge responsibility on their own, Jesus asked His disciples not to begin their assignment immediately, but to wait for the empowerment of the Holy Spirit; whom the Father would send to be with them and enable them to fulfil the mission on earth.

The prophet Isaiah had prophesied that the Holy Spirit would come upon God’s people, and they would demonstrate the works of the Kingdom. They would preach the good news with boldness, heal the brokenhearted, proclaim liberty to the captives, and set free those who are bound.

Right at the beginning of His ministry, Jesus declared this same prophecy as His mandate, which He fulfilled throughout His ministry.

Luke 4:16-19, 21 NKJV
_“[17] And He was handed the book of the prophet Isaiah. And when He had opened the book, He found the place where it was written: [18] "The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed; [19] To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD." [21] …And He began to say to them, "TODAY this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing."_

When the Holy Spirit eventually came upon Jesus’ disciples, they also were immediately transformed from weak, fearful men and women to powerful preachers and demonstrators of the power of the Gospel.

We, the Church, also DESPERATELY NEED to see these works fulfilled in our midst and through us, TODAY. Therefore, we can accurately say that the most urgent and critical need of every believer and the Church, at this moment, is the Holy Spirit! WE MUST WAIT FOR HIM!!!

Unfortunately, the knowledge and understanding that many of us have about Jesus Christ is very basic and shallow. Now is the time for us to read and study the Scriptures, to come into maturity in our knowledge and understanding of Him.

3. REVELATION (2)

Luke 24:45 NLT
“Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures.”

In the upper room, Jesus opened the minds of His disciples to understand the Scriptures, and revealed Himself to them through the word. This is what we also need at this time: to engage with the Scriptures and come to a deeper knowledge and understanding of Christ through the Word. Indeed, He is the eternal Word of God

John 1:14 NLT
“So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father's one and only Son.”

Although Jesus is not here physically, we have the Scriptures and the Holy Spirit to teach us and help us to get to know Him. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of wisdom, knowledge and understanding, and He dwells within us as believers.

ACTION

As part of our own upper room experience, we must get to know Jesus Christ through the Word. How can we do that?

First of all, determine to read the Scriptures daily; start with the Book of John and read a portion a day. As you read, pause and meditate on what you’re reading (reflect, ponder and engage your mind).

Also, as you read, engage with the Holy Spirit and ask Him to give you understanding; ask Him to reveal Jesus to you and help you know Him better through the portion of Scripture that you are reading. Ask Him to make Jesus real to you and help you to live in His fullness.

I can promise you one thing: the Holy Spirit will hear and answer as you read and study the Word. I can also testify that He helps me DAILY to understand the Scriptures and get better acquainted with Jesus; He will help you too. In Jesus’ name. AMEN!

Another awesome thing that occurred in the upper room, after the resurrection, was that Jesus opened the understanding of His disciples and gave them revelation of Himself. Again, this is what we, the Church, desperately need at this time: a true revelation of Jesus Christ and His current plans and purposes on the earth.

*3. REVELATION (1)*

Luke 24:44-48 NKJV
_“[44] Then He said to them, "These are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me." [45] And He opened their understanding, that they might comprehend the Scriptures. [46] Then He said to them, "Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day, [47] and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. [48] And you are witnesses of these things.”_

Prior to His death, Jesus often told His disciples the things written in the scriptures about Himself; yet, it was obvious that they did not understand Him. On the day of His resurrection, however, Jesus opened their minds to understand what had been written in the scriptures concerning Him; suddenly everything made sense to them!

The scriptures can sometimes be difficult to understand; often the bible is like a coded book. However, embedded in the scriptures, from Genesis to Revelation, is the revelation of Jesus Christ; we really need to understand the scriptures.

Hebrews 6:1 NLT
_“So let us stop going over the basic teachings about Christ again and again. Let us go on instead and become mature in our understanding...”_

The Father is seeking to move us from the elementary and basic teachings about Jesus Christ and to bring us into maturity. It is the work of the Holy Spirit in us - to reveal Christ in and through us. ( _John 16:13-15_ )

What is your revelation of Jesus Christ? What is your understanding of His vision, mission, plans and purposes for your life, family, community, city, nation and the whole earth? If you know these things, you will not walk carelessly and will become more responsible and fruitful in His Kingdom.

Today, let Apostle Paul’s prayer be your prayer for yourself….

Ephesians 1:16b-23 NLT
_“[16] ….I pray for you constantly, [17] asking God, the glorious Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, to give you spiritual wisdom and insight so that you might grow in your knowledge of God. [18] I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called-his holy people, who are his rich and glorious inheritance. [19] I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God's power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power [20] that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honour at God's right hand in the heavenly realms. [21] Now he is far above any ruler or authority or power or leader or anything else-not only in this world but also in the world to come. [22] God has put all things under the authority of Christ and has made him head over all things for the benefit of the church. [23] And the church is his body; it is made full and complete by Christ, who fills all things everywhere with himself.”_
