Kalenjin Tribe The Kalenjin are an ethnolinguistic group indigenous to East Africa, primarily in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, South Sudan, and Ethiopia. They trace their origins to the Elmenteitan culture and are believed to have migrated from the Nile River area or western Ethiopian highlands. Traditionally, they were semi-nomadic pastoralists, raising livestock and cultivating crops like sorghum and pearl millet, with a strong community defense and a fair political system. Today, known as Highland Nilotes, they speak various dialects, including Nandi and Kipsigis, and have been impacted by colonialism, which altered their traditional governance structures.
