Joy and dance at Our Lady of Africa Kitui Cathedral as Bishop Mwongela announces that Very Rev. Fr. John Mwandi is the newly appointed Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Kitui.

Until his appointment, Very Rev. Fr. John Mwandi had been serving as the Vicar General of the Diocese of Kitui and Parish Priest of Holy Spirit Mulutu Parish.

HANDOVER AT ST. JOSEPH’S JUNIOR SEMINARY MWINGI

On 22nd April 2026, the Bishop’s Office, led by the Executive Secretary, Rev. Fr. Edward Mulwa together with the Education Secretary, Rev. Fr. Antony Muema, facilitated a smooth handover at St. Joseph's Junior Seminary, Mwingi.

During the exercise, Rev. Fr. Paul Mutemi officially handed over leadership to Rev. Fr. Andrew Nzule, who had been serving as the chaplain at St. Charles Lwanga School. Fr. Mutemi had taken over the role on 12th January 2023 from Rev. Fr. Jeremiah Munyoki, who served as Rector for 11 years.

We congratulate Rev. Fr. Andrew Nzule on his appointment and wish Rev. Fr. Paul Mutemi well in his new apostolate.

The Catholic Diocese of Kitui invites all Catholics from the Diocese living in Nairobi and its environs to the Nairobi Diocesan Mass KESHO at Blessed Sacrament Parish, Buruburu, in the Archdiocese of Nairobi, starting at 10:00 a.m.

The Mass will be presided over by Rt. Rev. Joseph Mwongela, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Kitui.

Let us come together in faith and unity as one family in Christ.

Vatican News: At 9:45 AM, Cardinal Kevin Farrell, Camerlengo of the Apostolic Chamber, announced the death of Pope Francis from the Casa Santa Marta with these words:

"Dearest brothers and sisters, with deep sorrow I must announce the death of our Holy Father Francis. At 7:35 this morning, the Bishop of Rome, Francis, returned to the house of the Father. His entire life was dedicated to the service of the Lord and of His Church. He taught us to live the values of the Gospel with fidelity, courage, and universal love, especially in favor of the poorest and most marginalized. With immense gratitude for his example as a true disciple of the Lord Jesus, we commend the soul of Pope Francis to the infinite merciful love of the One and Triune God."

According to Archbishop Diego Ravelli, Master of Apostolic Ceremonies, the late Pope Francis had requested that the funeral rites be simplified and focused on expressing the faith of the Church in the Risen Body of Christ.

“The renewed rite,” said Archbishop Ravelli, “seeks to emphasise even more that the funeral of the Roman Pontiff is that of a pastor and disciple of Christ and not of a powerful person of this world.”
