"Thank you UNICEF for your encouragement and support. Thank you so much. Tomorrow I will get up early and go to school. I want to study and finish university. I want to be a doctor. Study is very good for me and for my future."

As well as being smart, 15 year old James* is incredibly brave. When conflict displaced him from his home he started selling small items in the market to make ends meet. One day he was abducted by soldiers and taken for training where he was given orders to fight and kill other children.

"I didn’t want to be a soldier. If I stayed a soldier, when I’m older I would have a bad mind," James explains. So he put his gun down and ran for freedom through the high grass until he reached a UN base for protection.

UNICEF provides child protection services to vulnerable children like James as well as essential items like buckets and mosquito nets. We also help get children back to school thanks to our partnership with USAID - US Agency for International Development

With his new school supplies James is happy. “I will go with my friend later to the child friendly space and play football," he says with a smile.
