OUK and the County Government of Machakos Partner to Advance Healthcare Training Through Nursing Upgrading Programme
The Open University of Kenya (OUK), led by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Elijah Omwenga, and the County Government of Machakos, represented by the County Executive Committee Member for Health Services, Mr. Justus Kasivu, today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a strategic partnership in healthcare training and service delivery.
The collaboration will focus on clinical education, student placements, research, innovation, staff capacity building, community outreach and the development of online professional programmes. It also seeks to strengthen collaboration between the two institutions in enhancing healthcare education and practice.
A major highlight of the MoU is support for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Upgrading programme, which is scheduled to commence in September 2026. The programme will provide flexible online learning complemented by structured clinical placements in accredited health facilities, enabling practising nurses to advance their qualifications while remaining in employment.
The partnership will further facilitate regulatory compliance, clinical training, mentorship and supervision of nursing students, as well as continuing professional development opportunities for healthcare professionals across the county.
