Why Should Education Take 4–5 Years When Skills Take Months?
I think about this a lot.
Why does someone need four or five years in university
to graduate
and still not know how to do anything?
Most institutions today are not building capability.
They are manufacturing certificates.
Long lectures.
Heavy theory.
Little application.
Zero relevance.
And at the end of it all,
you get a graduate who still needs retraining.
That is not education.
That is delay.
You see...
Many practical skills can be learned in weeks or months.
A plumber can be trained through apprenticeship in three months.
A video editor can become competent in 90 days.
A web designer can start building real projects in weeks.
A carpenter, electrician, technician—same story.
So why are we forcing people into multi-year programs that add no measurable value?
Education should not reward memory.
It should reward ability.
It should answer one question clearly:
What can you do when you’re done?
Instead, we design long curriculums
to justify fees, buildings, titles, and tradition.
That’s backwards.
Universities and colleges should be: Short.
Skill-based.
Project-driven.
Mentorship-focused.
Outcome-oriented.
Not exam factories.
Knowledge today is everywhere.
YouTube.
Online labs.
Apprenticeships.
Real-world work.
Time is expensive.
Youth is limited.
Dragging people through years of theory
only to release them confused and unemployed
is not wisdom.
It’s waste.
The future of education is not longer.
It is sharper.
Teach what works.
Teach what pays.
Teach what builds.
Everything else is just academic noise.

TVET CDACC wishes to inform All Assessment Centres that registration for the March/April 2026 Assessment Series will be conducted through the TVET CDACC Portal from 6th to 23rd January, 2026. All TVET Institutions are required to ensure that all eligible candidates are registered within this period.
