(Let me break it down for you)
According to the new government funding model of higher education, if a student applies for a government scholarship and loan, the highest a parent will pay is only 7% (bachelor's degree) and 20% (Diploma) of the declared fees. Based on their home background, the students shall be categorized into 4:
Vulnerable, Very Needy, Needy, and Less Needy. Both the Vulnerable and Very needy students shall not pay a single coin since the goverment scholarship and tuition loan shall have cleared the fees 100%. Only the other last two categories shall pay through their households.
Example 1
A student's admission letter has recorded fees of 200,000/= per year for a degree program. If the student applies for government funding, the maximum fee a parent can be charged is only 7% of 200,000 which is 14,000/= per year (or 7,000/= per semester). In addition, the student shall automatically qualify for upkeep between 24,000-44,000/=
Example 2
If a student is admitted to a diploma course, charging a fee of 67,000/=, and the student applies for government funding, the maximum a parent shall pay is 20% of 67,000 which is 13,400 divided by 3 modules, that is 4,467/= only. In addition, the student shall automatically get upkeep of 13,600/=. That means, the student can pay the Hostel fee and still have some money for survival.
