Part Two
I logged into my new Facebook account, my eyes glued to my little X-Tigi phone. The excitement was fresh, almost overwhelming. As I scrolled through the suggested accounts, I noticed faces I already knew. I didn’t bother sending them friend requests. That wasn’t what I was after. I kept scrolling… searching… until finally, I found what I was looking for.
Without wasting time, I sent requests to several ladies I thought were my type. Some accepted; others ignored me.
After a short while, I received a notification—Princess Z had accepted my friend request. Her profile picture stopped me in my tracks. She was light-brown skinned, innocent-looking, her eyes soft and pure. Too beautiful to be real, I thought. On her timeline’s About section, I saw she was from Garissa.
I typed a nervous greeting, my fingers trembling. For a moment, I almost deleted the message. But before I could, my phone buzzed.
She had replied.
It was the first time in my life I had ever texted a girl. My heart pounded so hard I thought she could hear it from across the screen. My words were rushed, straight to the point, though fear made my hands cold.
To my shock, she responded warmly. Within moments, she agreed to be my love—just like that.
“Are you in high school?” I asked, desperate to know more.
“No,” she replied. “I’m at Garissa University.”
Then she asked, “And what do you do?”
I froze. For a moment, I considered telling her the truth—that I was just a high school student with dusty shoes and big dreams. But fear whispered to me. So, with trembling fingers, I lied.
“I’m a teacher,” I typed confidently.
That was the first time I remember lying. If only I had told her the truth, perhaps I would have been spared the storm that followed.
To be continued…
