Learning happens when a child forgets they’re being taught.

The first days of school move slowly. Teachers update registers, plan schedules, and students settle back into routine. The air is soft with chatter, half about homework, half about the holidays. Memories of the break linger, fresh in everyone’s minds.

The highlight is always the sharing of Christmas stories. Some children speak of trips to the City , adventures in new towns, and exciting experiences. Others stayed close to home, visiting grandparents, helping in small ways, or enjoying the quiet of familiar places. Every story carries its own spark.

Hearing about different holidays whether far away or nearby inspires reflection and imagination. Each story, each memory, quietly encourages the desire to explore more, achieve more, and grow further.

As registers settle and schedules take shape, the classroom gradually gains energy. The holidays offer a glimpse of the world beyond the school walls, and in the new grade, students carry small sparks of ambition, ready to grow toward the possibilities ahead.

Every child has a special dream inside them, a little spark that shows who they can become. With love, courage, and a chance to explore, that dream can grow big and take them on amazing adventures they never imagined.🙌

In the foreground, a grade 6 student from St Martin School carefully leaves and organic waste over a small burn area l, part of a simple composting practice that will later nourish the school’s agricultural projects.it is an everyday task that reflects responsibility, learning, and hands-on participation. Behind him, a vibrant mural inspired by SDG 15: Life on Land comes alive with images of people working together to clean their environment, and manage waste, reminding us that caring for the land is a shared duty.

The contrast between the single student’s action and the collective effort painted on the wall tells a deeper story: real change begins with individual responsibility but succeeds through partnership. The mural’s message, aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals, reinforces that protecting our environment is not the work of one person or one institution it requires collaboration between students, teachers, schools, and the wider community.

Though the student works alone in this moment, he represents a larger network of guidance, values, and cooperation nurtured by the school. This is the spirit of SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals: where education, community, and shared purpose come together to build sustainable habits that protect our land and shape responsible future citizens.

The Game We Waited 8 Years For
By Tr. Mike

What made school exciting wasn’t always the lessons. It was football. Not the real balls, but those legendary homemade nylon ones made from polythene bags and tied with sisal. That’s what we played with every break, lunch, and even on the way home.

The real inflated ball only came out in term two during ball games season. And when it did, it was reserved for the elite class 8 boys and maybe one or two lucky class 7s. The girls would be on the other side playing volleyball and netball . The rest of us watched , dreaming of the day we’d represent the school.
When I finally reached class 8, I made the team. I was living the dream. But on the eve of the big game, during practice, I didn’t have proper shoes. So I borrowed a pair from a class 6 pupil. They were way too small, but I didn’t care. I wanted to prove what I had in me.

After practice, I could barely walk. Blisters had formed on both feet. The pain was sharp and constant. But this was the moment I had waited for all my school life.

So I cut up sponge pieces and stuffed them into my shoes. I forced myself to walk normally. I showed up for the match like nothing was wrong. I played through the pain because my heart was finally where it had always wanted to be.

That day taught me something I’ll never forget. Sometimes your body might be hurting, but if that’s what your heart wants, you keep going. Because peace doesn’t always come from comfort. Sometimes it comes from doing what you love, no matter the cost.

Today, as a teacher, I never miss a chance to play with my pupils. I understand what just one kick of the ball means to a child. And I always make sure the game is inclusive. All classes. All genders. Every child deserves their moment to shine.

It’s more than just a game. It’s a dream. A memory. And for some of us, it’s where we first learned to fight for what we love.

Shoutout to . We really used to massacre teams during break time.

The journey of learning is always better when we walk it together

It takes a village to raise a child, and when all stakeholders come together—families, educators, communities, and leaders—we create a strong foundation for their success. Together, we nurture the future.

As we return to school, we’re sharing this recap from our visit to the Kenya Prison Service booth at the Agricultural Show which has been in our drafts for a while . It was an eye-opener to see how the service is embracing holistic development, offering prisoners a chance to grow beyond bars. From learning valuable skills like vegetable farming, furniture making, and baking, to gaining knowledge in IT and protective gear production, it’s clear that the focus is on rehabilitation and personal transformation. A true testament to the power of education and second chances. ”
