GASEOUS EXCHANGE IN ALVEOLI
a) There is higher concentration of oxygen in alveoli cavity than in blood in blood capillaries.
b) oxygen therefore diffuses across the thin wall of capillaries into the bloodstream where it combines with haemoglobin in red blood cells to form oxyhemoglobin which is transported to various parts of the body.
c) There is higher concentration of carbon dioxide in blood capillaries than in the alveoli cavity.
d) carbon dioxide diffuse across the thin membrane into alveoli cavity where is expelled during breathing out.

1. Aim of experiment: To investigate process of anaerobic respiration.
2. observation made:
a) Rise in thermometer readings.
b) smell of ethanol
3. Account for the observation made:
a) glucose is broken down by the yeast to produce Ethanol, energy and carbon dioxide. The energy is in form of heat hence causes increased temperature inside the vacuum flask.
4. Role of the oil: to prevent entry of oxygen.
5. Control experiment: same experiment but using boiled solution of glucose and yeast.
