INTERNATIONAL LITERACY DAY
Celebrated last Tuesday 8th September
Our Friends of Rang’I Vision is a nurturing safe environment for the education and empowerment of all vulnerable children, helping to break the cycle of poverty.

Improved literacy can contribute to economic growth; reduce poverty; reduce crime; promote democracy; increase civic engagement; prevent HIV/AIDS and other diseases through information provision; enhance cultural diversity through literacy programmes in minority languages; lead to lower birth rates.
Did you know?
• 773 million adults and young people lack basic literacy skills;
• 617 million children and adolescents are not achieving minimum proficiency levels in reading and mathematics;
• During the initial phase of the pandemic, schools were closed disrupting the education of 62.3 per cent of the world’s student population of 1.09 billion;
• Adult literacy and education were absent in initial education response plans, therefore many youth and adults with no or low literacy skills have had limited access to life-saving information.

WORLD MOSQUITO DAY

Bring out the Mosquito Netting. World Mosquito Day is today. It commemorates the day when the relationship between mosquitos and malaria was identified. Malaria is an infectious disease caused by parasitic protozoans.
Over one million people die from malaria each year, mostly children under five years of age
In Kenya, there are an estimated 3.5 million new clinical cases and 10,700 deaths each year.
Live in a malaria prone area or travelling there? Remember to use netting, keep covered and spray yourselves and clothes with mosquito repellent.
