The TKNP delegation, led by Chief Principal Dr. Okumu J.W. Odhiambo, joined Principal Secretary, State Department for TVET, Dr. Esther Thaara Muoria, and other TVET stakeholders on a study visit to Kombolcha Polytechnic College in Ethiopia under the World Bank-supported EASTRIP programme. Kenya’s TVET PS is Dr. Muoria.
The visit focused on industry-led training, training factory models, industry partnerships and institutional sustainability, with particular attention to lessons that can inform the development and operationalisation of TKNP’s Textile Learning Factory.
The delegation explored how training, production and industry linkages can be integrated to equip trainees with market-relevant competencies while creating opportunities for enterprise, employment and institutional sustainability.
For TKNP, the visit provides valuable lessons for strengthening its textile value chain model, linking agriculture, cotton production, ginning, textile manufacturing, engineering, fashion and design, quality assurance and markets—supporting the vision of a skills development ecosystem from Farm to Fashion.
The engagement also provided an opportunity to strengthen regional knowledge exchange and collaboration among TVET institutions under EASTRIP. TKNP’s textile technology project is part of EASTRIP and includes facilities for spinning, weaving and garment production.
Industry Succeeds.
