Getting to understand children's developmental milestones is very important for parents and other caregivers. Children grow and develop in five different domains namely:
a) Physical
b) Mental/Intellectual
c)Spiritual
d)Social
e)Emotional
Children should be allowed to develop wholesomely in the areas already listed above so that they can learn well. To help children grow and develop physically, they should be provided with adequate ,nutritious and balanced meals so that they can increase in size and have energy for physical activities. Young children should be exposed to play and other related activities so that they can develop muscle coordination, control and strengthen their fine/small muscles(fingers, hands, wrists) and in turn strengthen the gross motor/large muscles(for example legs).
Mental /intellectual development is the maturation and ability of the brain to reason, think abstractly and logically, memorize facts, solve problems, being creative, making decisions depending on the age of the child.
Spiritual development involves the ability of the child to develop connections between self, others and God.They develop the ability to know what is right and wrong based on principles imparted to them by the caregivers. They are slowly taught how to pray, sing, recite and read a verse and cope with life's challenges.
To grow and develop socially, children need to be exposed to other people(children and adults as well). They can be allowed to interact with other children during play and other pretend activities where they act out roles of other family members for example in the game 'cha mama'.Through such interactions, children acquire language, they boost growth and strength of fine and gross muscles, they learn how to relate with others, they also acquire other relevant skills like: observation, manipulation, exploration, discovery, problem solving, creativity among others.
Emotional development in children involves the ability of children to develop and express their emotions in desirable ways. For example:anger, sadness, happiness, fear, frustration etc. When children are allowed to play even when they are young, they are able to release various emotions. This helps them to avoid stress. As parents and caregivers therefore, we all have a role to play in a child's overall growth and development at various stages and to help them learn and thrive well.

Even when born by the same parent, children will never be the same. They learn differently and at a different pace.Do not compare your child with another child born by a different parent in matters of performance.Let children be children.

Well, did you know that young babies are born with reflexes that help them to adapt to the environment? The following are some of the reflexes that are present from birth in a baby:
a)Rooting reflex:If a baby's cheek is touched/stroked, by anything the baby turns it's face,n open mouth toward source so as to find food.
b)Sucking reflex: If anything touches the root of the mouth,or if anything is inserted into the mouth of the baby,it begins to suck. This reflex is important as it helps the baby to exercise the jaws.
c)Grasping reflex:once anything is placed on the palm of the baby,he/she grasps tightly. This reflex helps the baby to to develop skills n intentionally grasp things as they grow thus exercising fine muscles.
d)Stepping reflex:If a baby is held in an upright position n feet on a flat surface,it tends to lift one foot n then the other as if it's taking steps. This helps to exercise the gross muscles towards controlled walking as they grow.
e)Moro reflex/Startle reflex:if there is aloud noise, the baby feels as if it's falling,it suddenly extends arms n legs, arch backward n curl. The baby may cry or not cry.dometimes the baby may Startle once put down to sleep.Once the baby doesn't have the Moro reflex or is missing,it could raise an alarm to see a doctor because it could indicate a nerve, brain or spinal injury.
Therefore, reflexes are part of a child's normal development and should be checked from time to time by the caregivers.

Many thanks friends.nataka class ijae tuendelee kusoma.Ok,parenting is a great step in one's life.Even if u have not had an opportunity to become a parent,I believe you will get helpful tips here that can help you run the department of parenthood and child rearing with the seriousness it deserves.Did you know that learning in young children begins from the mother's womb during pregnancy?During pregnancy, the foetus can respond to sounds in the environment,n can even respond to music being played. After pregnancy,a baby can recognise music that was once played while in the mother's womb. The baby too can recognise familiar sounds in the environment. Therefore learning in A foetus begins from the mother's womb. Therefore as parents we should provide an enabling environment that is stress free to the expectant mother because any negative feelings or stress on the mother will negatively impact on the unborn baby. Many times tunashangaa kwa nini mtoto akizaliwa sometimes huwa kisirani sana, anasumbua na kulialia sana.Maybe the mother underwent a series of stress that caused the problem in the baby.So let's take care.I thought you should know.
