In Teso, Busia, a pregnant woman, Deborah Wanyama, was bitten by a snake recently. She screamed for help and was rushed to Kamolo Dispensary. There was no anti-venom.
She was referred to Kocholia Sub-County Hospital. Still no anti-venom. She was then rushed to Bungoma. She arrived dead, together with her unborn child.
The same happened in Tana River Bridge recently, still a pregnant woman was bitten by a snake, believed to be a cobra or black mamba. (image of the snake below) She was moved from hospital to hospital, where she was turned away due to a lack of anti-venom.
She finally reached Hola Referral (the largest government hospital in the county), and there, too, was no anti-venom. Both the woman and her unborn child passed away.
Any government medical facility should have basic drugs for common health related ailments and complications. These are just two known cases, what of those we know nothing about. We need better health services.
