Kivukoni School

Kivukoni School Kivukoni is an International Secondary, Primary and Nursery school in Kilifi We are totally ecologically sensitive, off-the-grid and proud of it.

Kivukoni offers the British National Curriculum with an emphasis on its Kenyan context and the nurturing natural environment. It uses its expansive, rural setting to good ends and the children enjoy an inspiring extra curricular programme as well as the core international curriculum. Due to popular demand, we are now growing upwards as well as outwards, but without loosing the family feel of the school. Kivukoni is a place where children love to learn and teachers love to teach.

A great weekend for Team Kivukoni!
Our young swimmers had a fantastic day at the CISSA Junior Swimming Gala, hosted by Oshwal Academy Mombasa, coming away with good memories, new goals and 17 medals:
🥇 5 Gold
🥈 7 Silver
🥉 5 Bronze

Most importantly, we’re proud of every swimmer who took part — competing with determination, supporting one another and gaining valuable experience along the way.

A big thank you to our coaches, parents and staff for making it all possible.

Well done, Team Kivukoni! 💚🏊‍♀️

This weekend we were honoured to be part of the Global Peace Foundation GreatPlacesToSchool awards, where educators from around the country gathered to reflect on the potential of education to transform lives through character development and truly holistic learning. This starts at home, but is further nurtured through purposeful school environments.

We were thrilled to receive an award for our enriching extra curricular activities.
With diverse learning experiences now increasingly embedded into our core curriculum, we are proud to be a school , and . Thanks to all who help make this possible. Together with all in our country-wide educational community - we have essential and rewarding work to do…

This weekend, our Senior Eco Team and staff joined millions around the world for the International Coastal Cleanup. In partnership with Ocean Sole, we picked, sorted, chatted, laughed and got our hands a little sandy!
Caring for our planet isn’t about grand gestures; sometimes, it’s simply showing up, getting your hands dirty and leaving a place a little better than you found it.
A big thank you to Ocean Sole for bringing us together and to our wonderful Eco Team, staff and parents who showed up to put our values into practice and protect the coastline we are SO lucky to call home. 🌊💙

We are thrilled to be nominees for 3 categories in this years GreatPlacesToSchool Global Peace Foundation Kenya awards.
Equity, sustainability and nurturing holistic growth are central to Kivukoni’s ethos - and on the eve of World Peace Day, it feels good to be celebrating these much needed qualities in schools- where it all begins.

We recently celebrated 15 years of KIvukoni - with a fantabulous Circus!
The children represented wild animals, from ants to bush babies, hippos to elephants, with the story woven together by old Mrs Crocodile and Mzee Rhino - and Curious Clowns, on a desperate search for water in the East African bush. Tim Bull

The ‘Circus of Life’- the bounty of a diverse and creative community, each with a valuable part to play- was truly a fitting reflection of what has made the past 15 years of KIvukoni so special.

Each child, each teacher, each parent, each tree - all have a part to play in the creation of a special community- where children love to learn!

It’s been a juggling act - but tunashukuru! 🤹‍♀️🙏💫🙏🤡

There are many special moments at school each week, each term, each year- but this one took the biscuit!
Having one of our ‘original’ Kivukoni pioneers, Tim Mwangi Bull, who grew with the school from scratch 15 years ago, return to share his skill, passion and gratitude in the form of a school mural, was a fantabulous treat to behold.
The mural, designed by Tim, now a student at UAL: University of the Arts London, incorporates the 4 ocean animals that represent the school houses, Kasa, Pomboa, Pweza and Papa. Additionally it celebrates key aspects, from the characteristic old school bell to the generous playground Mango Tree, the giant eco-swings to the fragrant frangipani, that made Kivukoni special to Tim, and so many others, along the way.
The students were thrilled to interact with him and his work, and we were thrilled to welcome him back- with open arms and handfuls or paintbrushes!
What a wonderful way to celebrate 15 Years. Our hearts are full- and our hall is humming with Kivukoni joy. 💚💫💙
