University Lecturers Call Off 49-Day Strike
University lecturers across Kenya have officially called off their 49-day strike following an agreement between the lecturersβ unions and the Ministry of Education.
Under the deal, the government will settle the outstanding KSh 7.9 billion in salary arrears in two phases β KSh 3.8 billion by December 2025 and the remaining amount by July 2026. Additionally, the 2025β2029 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) is expected to be concluded within 30 days.
The return-to-work formula paves the way for the resumption of lectures in all public universities, marking the end of a prolonged disruption to academic activities. Union leaders, however, emphasized that the government must honor the terms of the agreement to avoid future industrial action.
The Ministry of Education directs that classes resume on Monday.

πΈ The SGC President at the University of Kabianga - Kenya Attends Jukwaa la Usalama β Kericho County
The SGC President Allan Kipkoech had the privilege of attending the Jukwaa la Usalama held in Kericho County, where he represented the interests of UoK comrades with dedication and clarity.
Key issues addressed on behalf of the students included:
1. Repair of all street lights within and around Kabianga Market.
2. Installation of street lights from Kapkatet Campus to the market.
3. Deployment of police officers for increased security within the University premises.
4. Construction of a police station to enhance safety in the area.
Also present at the forum was Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen, Dr. Juma, who represented the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kabianga. Though brief in speech, Dr. Jumaβs words were filled with insight and wisdom, leaving a strong impression on those in attendance as well as the institution's only inspector, who the President describes as his good friend, an intellectual and a man full of wisdom.
We applaud the student leadership for advocating for safety, security, and infrastructure improvements that directly impact the student experience.
