The journey of life is made possible be a of the teachers in our lives….

This is a day of deep gratitude — a day we pause to celebrate the men and women who dedicate their time, energy, and hearts to shaping the future through education.

Teachers are more than just professionals; they are architects of dreams. Every lesson they teach builds the foundation upon which nations stand. Every word of encouragement, every spark of curiosity they ignite, transforms lives in ways that cannot be measured.

In a world that is changing faster than ever — with technology, new challenges, and shifting values — teachers remain the steady light guiding learners through uncertainty. You don’t just teach subjects; you teach resilience, empathy, and creativity. You show us not only what to think, but how to think.

Today, we honor your patience when we struggle, your persistence when we lose focus, and your passion that keeps the classroom alive. We recognize that behind every successful person stands at least one teacher who believed in them, sometimes even before they believed in themselves.

Let us also appreciate the sacrifices you make — the late nights spent marking papers, the time given to mentoring, and the love poured into every lesson plan. You may not always wear capes, but in truth, you are our everyday heroes.

As we celebrate you today, may you feel valued, respected, and inspired. Your work is not in vain. The seeds you plant in your students’ hearts will continue to bloom for generations.

On behalf of all learners, parents, and the entire community, we say thank you — thank you for teaching, guiding, caring, and believing. The world is a better place because of you.

Happy International Teachers’ Day! From ANGAZA AFRICA

As Kenya marked its very first Mazingira day, Climate Advocates Voces Unidas (CAVU) marked a significant step in kids and youth-led climate action.
With a Celebration held at Ohana School in collaboration with other schools registered for CIC, the aim was to raise awareness about the ongoing climate crisis, the event brought together young people, students, teachers and storytelling experts eager to learn, share their knowledge, engage, and take meaningful action.

One of the day's key highlights was the planting of indigenous trees, symbolizing a commitment to restoring Kenya’s biodiversity and mitigating the effects of climate change. These tree-planting efforts aligned with the day’s educational sessions, where experts shared knowledge on the impacts of climate change and power of storytelling thus, empowering participants with the skills to be environmental stewards in their communities.

Mazingira Day also saw the introduction of the Climate Innovative Challenge (CIC), an initiative by CAVU designed to inspire young minds to tackle the climate crisis creatively. Through the program, students are encouraged to identify climate-related challenges in their communities and develop innovative solutions. By incorporating storytelling and video creation, CIC equips participants to share their climate stories and solutions in a compelling way, fostering widespread awareness and action.

This event set the foundation for ongoing efforts to empower students, creating a platform where they can be both advocates and creators of change in the face of the climate crisis. The combination of education, hands-on activities, and creative innovation makes Mazingira Day a transformative moment in Kenya’s environmental movement.

We spent the last week at the beautiful Sleeping Warrior Camp at a mentorship camp with AKAD Africa and ALADI-

Insightful discussions on leadership, Africa and success lead by mentors across 3 generations.

Mentorship is a powerful tool that holds the hands of those behind us, and soon they too are holding our hands and sharing knowledge acquired over different experiences.

We are busy planning for the next sessions come the next school holiday in November…

Connecting with like minded stakeholders is Key in enabling us to reach and impact more young people.

We have been training Educators working with Homeless of Kisumu, equipping them with knowledge and skills to ingnite self awareness in their learners.

As we strive to increase youth employability through life and work skills development - our second cohort of peer mentors from the YMCA Kisumu have weekly training sessions to learn and master key skills in preparationto the new school term in May.

Work Skills Development is at the core of all our interactions with young people.

Angaza has partnered with the YMCA to nurture and develop young peer mentors with key life and work skills to increase their employability and success in the job market.

Our first cohort in February 2024, have had the opportunity of weekly hands-on experience through weekly interaction in classrooms.

As the school term comes to an end- we look forward to hearing about their real-life experiences this April as we prepare them to keep growing and learning.

My journey as an educator has been one of my most satisfying paths yet- I can’t say this enough.

I am excited to spend a week with educators from Western Kenya- as I learn if the great work they are doing with their learners as they learn about the environment and climate education…

Last year, I had the honor of visiting Lake Baringo area and meeting with over 12 educators from different schools in the region and as I reminisce that trip- I want to celebrate one educator- Amkich… you led your girls at Lake Bogoria and won the international award at CIC2023! Congratulations to the girls and I can’t wait to see what you present for this years CIC2024!

As I engage with educators in Western Kenya, I am optimistic we will get some great projects from Africa!
