THE ROOTS
Gathirimu Girls was named in honour of the father of late PARAMOUNT CHIEF KINYANJUI GATHIRIMU. Kinyanjui’s father moved his family from Kandara, Murang'a county to Miguta Komothai location near Gathirimu Girls’.Kinyanjui who was probably born in 1865 lived there for a number of years before moving to Kibichiku lower Kabete Kikuyu division. Kinyanjui got along well with the missionaries especially Karen Blixen of " Out of Africa" fame and paved way for them to settle in central province and establish schools and hospitals. Alliance boys and Girls High schools, Kikuyu PCEA hospital,Thogoto teachers training teachers college, University of Nairobi kikuyu campus were as a result of their partnerships. Kinyanjui Started off as a porter, and his friendly attitude towards white settlers saw him first, elevated to the position of Headman in Dagoretti, then a Chief and finally was appointed Paramount chief of the Agikuyu in 1907 a position he held for the rest of his life.
