🎓 From the Streets to the Graduation Gown: Favour’s Story of Faith and Resilience

Some graduation stories are not just about academic achievement. They are stories of survival, faith, sacrifice and purpose.

Favour Otieno was raised in a humble background by a single mother. As the firstborn, life demanded responsibility at an early age. At some point, Favour had to turn to street life to help put a little food on the table and support the family.

Going to school was a struggle. But through the grace of God and the support of well-wishers, Favour managed to complete Form Four. Then came another opportunity, a job as a private security guard.

But Favour had a bigger dream.

With faith, determination and the little he earned, Favour enrolled at Mount Kenya University, Eldoret Campus,. The journey was far from easy. There were seasons of financial difficulty, challenges paying fees and moments when giving up could have seemed like the easier option.

But God never left him.

Yesterday, years after beginning that journey, Favour finally stood in a graduation gown and proudly graduated.

Today, Favour is not only a professional social worker, but also a Gospel musician and a passionate advocate for children living on the streets.

Through Bring a Smile to Them Foundation, Favour is turning his own painful experiences into a source of hope for others, reaching out to street-connected children with food, compassion, dignity and a reason to believe that tomorrow can be better.

The boy who once struggled to put food on the table is now dedicating his life to helping put smiles on the faces of others.

What a journey.
What a testimony.
What a God.

Congratulations, Favour. Your story is a reminder that where you come from does not have to determine where you are going.

From the streets to the graduation gown. From survival to service. From a dream to a calling.

Success Story | From P1 Teacher to University Graduate

Every achievement begins with a decision to keep moving forward.

David Ekwee's academic journey is a true inspiration. He first earned his P1 Teacher Certificate, beginning his career in the classroom with a passion for shaping young minds. Coming from Turkana and raised in a nomadic family, pursuing higher education was no easy feat. Driven by the desire to grow professionally, he took advantage of Mount Kenya University's DIBEL mode, which allows teachers to study during school holidays while continuing to serve in their schools.

Today, David has graduated with a Bachelor of Education (Arts) with Second Class Honours (Upper Division), a milestone that reflects his resilience, determination, and commitment to lifelong learning.
