At Good News Migwena Academy (GNMA), our motto is “Learn, Lead, Serve.” We hope our students receive the education they need, grow into leaders, and develop hearts that serve with the love of God. We strive to show our students what it truly means to serve—and sometimes, our staff demonstrate it in ways that inspire us all.

Recently, during a routine day at school, our ECD teacher ran out of her class in a panic, grabbing a colleague to drive her on his motorcycle. The reason became clear: her apartment was on fire.
GNMA staff quickly called two teachers who lived in the same building and, along with other staff, rushed to help remove belongings.

The GNMA team immediately retrieved all five of the school’s fire extinguishers—training in Fire Safety and First Aid from six months earlier proved invaluable.

Teachers ran into their homes to save what they could, while the GNMA team took charge of the fire. Each stepping into action: using extinguishers, disconnecting electricity, breaking open a nearby water source, and caring for women who had collapsed in shock.

The team didn’t wait for instructions. They didn’t count the risk. They acted with skill, courage, and love. Incredibly, the fire was out in just 20 minutes.

This moment reminded us that “Serve” is not just a word in our motto—it’s who we are. At GNMA, service is lived every day, not just taught in the classroom.
