Lukenya British Curriculum

Lukenya British Curriculum Lukenya IGCSE is a British Curriculum secondary school that offers IGCSE certification. Our Mission And we know what we’re doing. These I.G.C.S.E. I.G.C.S.E.

‘Lukenya IGCSE’ is a mixed-gender boarding and day school just 35km from Nairobi. We are situated in the calm environment of rural Machakos County. The school is perfect for study and fun co-curricular activities. We offer a wide range of IGCSEs (former O Level equivalent), both traditional and ‘new’
– from Mathematics to Travel & Tourism and Environmental Management. We teach ONLY the British Cur

riculum, and therefore don’t ‘mix systems’! qualifications can lead to direct private university access in Kenya, or to public university with an extra ‘bridging’ year; or, of course, to easy study abroad. Our students always perform well academically, and we take great pride in their fantastic ‘value added’ achievement. Our academic year runs from January to November, making it perfect for
K.C.P.E./Standard Eight leavers, who enter our Year 9. exams occur at the end of
Year 11. For details of the I.G.C.S.E. qualification, please visit our exam board’s website, ‘Cambridge International Examinations’. Ours is also an enjoyable school, where pupils take part in various sports (yes, we
have a pool!), the President’s Award, St John’s and numerous other in-school clubs from cooking (er, ‘eating) to French speaking. We always try to involve parents in our programmes, and to teach in a ‘hybrid’ manner that ends with a very respectable international qualification offered through Kenyan contexts. We warmly invite you to ‘Like’ and follow us, and to visit. For enquiries, please contact our Admissions Officer Mr Wanyonyi on 0714674366. Or email [email protected]. Yours, with all best wishes, whether you’re a former student, present student, parent/guardian or prospective student, Stephen Derwent Partington (Head; aka, ‘Mr Steve’).

External Art Show
This weekend our Key Stage 3 Art students and a handful of others attended the regular ‘Affordable Art Show’ at the National Museum of Kenya. They got the chance to explore a range of styles and to reflect on what’s popular on the Kenyan Art Market at the moment

Mr & Miss Lukenya
A short while ago we crowned Miss and Mr Lukenya at the end of our Cultural Week. This week we rewarded them with a plaque and certificate, in addition to the crowns that they already had. Thanks to Ms Sylvia and team for leading the event. As you will see, the principal and his dog also got into the photo

*Student Council Get-Together*
A select group of our British Curriculum Student Councilllors (others were on a High Achievers Trip elsewhere) today attended a training event alongside Prefects from the other Lukenya Schools. This happened at the Lukenya Academy Primary School, and it taught youth leadership, confidence and other such skills. Thank you to Ms Irene and Ms Charles for supervising The Council today, and to the Academy for hosting

From time to time, especially during exam season, we invite neighboring schools for friendly matches to strengthen sportsmanship and build lasting connections. On a recent weekend, we hosted Lukenya Boys Senior School Lukenya Senior Secondary Schools for exciting football and volleyball encounters. We are delighted to say we emerged victorious in both matches — though we must admit the outcome may have been different had we challenged them in basketball!

We truly appreciate their visit and the spirit of friendly competition they brought along. We look forward to many more matches and interactions in the future. And of course, we can’t help but admire just how beautifully green Lukenya looks in this photo!

Mental Health & Issue Awareness Day
Today we held an awareness day in larger and smaller groups on age-appropriate topics directed at Years 7-11 and, separately, Years 12-13. While we cover such issues internally in ‘pastoral’, especially in the Sixth Form, we today invited in an external group to talks about the issues mentioned in the Poster, shared above. Here are a few images from the day

Sixth Form Marshmallows
Recently, the Sixth Formers, who under supervision organize their own in-school events, held a marshmallow-roasting bonfire and ‘exam chat’ evening in the grounds behind their college. There’s something mesmerizing about staring into the depths of a bonfire, considering the furnace that is the exam season and the brightness of your future as a young adult.
They’ve really impressed with their maturity during this exam season, and we continue to wish them well. We also wish them endless marshmallow

Key Stage 3 Museum Trip
Today our Year 7-9 pupils are enjoying a trip to the national museum. A fun trip, yes, but also with a focus on History – there’ll be post-visit study when they return.
We hope they enjoy it.
