YBS Sports Day 2026!!

YBS Preschool and Elementary had a exciting Sports Day last Friday — a day that truly reflected the strength of our community.

In Japan, Undokai (Sports Day) is more than just a school event — it’s a meaningful opportunity for children to grow through challenge, teamwork, and shared experiences.

From our Preschoolers expressing their unique “colors,” to our Elementary students uniting across ages in the “Battle of the Four Houses,” every moment was built on teamwork, trust, and shared spirit.

What stood out most was not just the competition, but the way children supported one another — cheering for their friends, encouraging their teammates, and feeling proud not only of themselves, but of their entire community.

This is what YBS is about — growing, challenging, and celebrating together, beyond our differences.

We are proud to share a special milestone from YBS!!

Last year, we took a new challenge on the American Math Olympiad (AMO) for the very first time — a globally recognized competition that challenges students with advanced problem-solving.

And we are so excited to announce that two of our students received awards!! One of our 3rd grader earned a Bronze Award, and another 3rd grader received an Honorable Mention. We celebrate not only their achievement, but also their courage to take on this challenge.

And this is not just about the award winners.

From doubt to determination, our students showed us what it truly means to never give up, have courage, and believe in their unlimited potential.

We are incredibly proud of every student who took on this challenge!!

~ YBS Alumni, Katie's Story: Growing Proudly Beyond Borders ~

We are proud to share the story of our very first American student at YBS.

Today, at just 16 years old, Katie has been selected into one of the most competitive early college academies in the United States.
She now lives on a university campus, taking college-level courses — earning both her high school diploma and college credits.

From a small bilingual classroom in Japan
to a bold step toward her future.

What did she carry with her from YBS?

The courage to step into the unknown.
The confidence to speak across cultures.
The ability to see differences not as barriers — but as possibilities.

At YBS, students don’t just learn academics.
They learn to see the world from a higher perspective —
with positivity, and to see themselves with infinite hope and confidence.

A Warm Gift, A Big Inspiration!!

With this warm vision in mind, Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank, Limited（三井住友信託銀行） generously donated a basketball hoop and basketballs to YBS！

Children were invited to take part in the donation ceremony held yesterday, and as representatives handed us balls and stickers, excited voices filled the space:

“Can we use it now?” “Do we get to play basketball today?”

Seeing the children hold their new basketballs so carefully and proudly created a heartwarming atmosphere for everyone present!!

At YBS, we value learning and growth in a bilingual environment immersed in both the Japanese way and the global way.
Within that journey, sports serve as a universal language that connects hearts beyond words and cultures.

It is not only about winning or losing.
It is about taking on challenges with passion, supporting teammates, and building confidence through achievement. These experiences become powerful tools that support children’s continued learning and personal growth.

We are proud to announce a new big step for Yokosuka Bilingual School.

On February 2, 2026, YBS officially signed an affiliation agreement with Kanagawa Dental University, a highly respected university with a long-standing legacy in higher education and medical sciences in Japan.

This partnership is far more than a name or formality.
It represents institutional trust, academic recognition, and a powerful bridge between early childhood education, international bilingual learning, and Japanese higher education.

What can 3-year-olds learn from an adventure in a forest??

Our 3-year-olds explored a local forest with a biologist — and all our worries disappeared.

Climbing, walking through tall grass, touching tree nuts, and encouraging one another, the children showed confidence, curiosity, and amazing endurance.

This experience wasn’t about facts. It was about building non-cognitive skills through hands-on, real-life learning.

Christmas is about caring for others, being together, and sharing smiles…

The YBS Christmas event began with heartfelt messages from our CEO and opened into a celebration filled with laughter, connection, and joy. Children from ages 0 to 14, together with their families and teachers, shared a truly special time.

Every dance, every song, and every smile touched our hearts and made the moment unforgettable. Teachers and parents alike felt immense pride in the children’s growth and shining confidence.

Different ages. Different languages. Different backgrounds.

Sneak Peek into Our 5th Grade Class!

Our oldest grade at YBS Elementary — the leaders of our young learners.
It’s a small class, but their learning and experiences are deeply connected to the next steps in their educational journey.

From role play activities in Japanese class to hands-on experiments in Science, our 5th graders are discovering, exploring, and adding new knowledge every day.
