Yesterday, we had the pleasure of having the CMU alumni event with the presence of two esteemed professors, Dr. Martial Hebert, Dean of the School of Computer Science, University Professor and Dr. Sebastian Scherer, Associate Research Professor, Robotics Institute, thanks to generous support from Dr. Hideto Tomabechi to host this event.
The event was a tremendous success, filled with laughter and joy of reconnecting. Thank you to everyone who attended and made this gathering unforgettable!

About a hundred of CMU alumni welcomed the visit of Dr. David Steier, Distinguished Service Professor in the Heinz College School of Information Systems and Management. This was our first meet-up in four years and was a great success! Thank you very much for coming!

In 2021, CMU Japan Network starts a new initiative called “Carnegie Mellon Book Award” with the cooperation of young alumni and current students. This award recognizes an outstanding student who (a) is in their junior year of high school, (b) demonstrates academic and artistic potential, (c) builds bridges between different people, cultures, and academic disciplines, and (d) exemplifies the motto “My Heart is in the Work”. Today, we attended The High School Awards Ceremony at the Saint Maur International School and presented “The Last Lecture” by Randy Pausch to an award recipient with the special bookplate below.

We formally announce that the Japan Chapter has renewed the Google group: [email protected] to accommodate all 500+ email address of the CMU community members in Japan. So, please use this Google group to contact our alumni network, notify of events, announce your new books or web articles, etc. from now (only Group members can send emails through this Google group). If you are not included in this Google group although you are CMU related member, please send a message to the admin of this FB group.

この度、日本在住のCMU関係者向けのGoogle groupをリニューアルし、[email protected] を正式なメーリングリストとして運用開始いたしました。現在、約500名が登録されておりますので、卒業生同士の意見交換、イベントの連絡、講演や新刊の連絡など柔軟にご利用ください。なおスパム等を避けるため、グループに登録されているメンバーのみが、メーリングリスト経由でメールを送信可能です。もし、本グループに登録されていない方がいらっしゃいましたら、本FBページでご連絡いただければ追加させていただきます。

The CMU Alumni Association Japan Chapter joined the Kaisei College Fair at the Kaisei Academy (開成高校), one of the top high schools in Japan. CMU alumni talked about their CMU experience to more than 100 high school students!

CMU alumni and the Japan Chapter hosted the Welcome party and distinguished guest lecture by Ambassador Kondo, former commissioner of the Agency for Cultural Affaires (Bunka-cho Chokan), for Tepper students coming to Japan for the Japan Trek. It’s really fascinating to know the characteristics of Japanese cultures and effects to the current Japanese society and economy. Thank you, Kondo-san!
