Writing Courses for the 2020 Academic Year
We hope this message finds you well. Due to complications from the Covid-19 Pandemic, the Academia needed to reschedule the Spring writing courses. Here is an update for the Support Writing Courses of 2020.
The Support Writing Course 英文ライティング添削講座 for Spring 2020 has been rescheduled to late December 2020 to March 2021.

Hi everyone!

Wow, to be honest, we did not expect so many teachers to be this interested in debate and discussion to come on a Saturday morning for a 3-hour seminar.

We started by discussing the similarities and differences between discussion and debate. Then, we looked at the distinct characteristics of each.

For discussion, we talked about how to successfully facilitate a discussion by creating specific situations, preparing expressions our students can use, and giving them planning time.

For debate, we talked about what makes a good argument, different types of opinions, and how to do a rebuttal.

At Academia, we believe one of the most important ways to learn something is to actually do it. So that’s why we did a discussion and several mini-debates after the lecture. We’re very thankful to all the teachers who actively participated in all the activities and had fun while doing it!

Hi everyone!

We had our seminar yesterday on how to make classroom materials using Internet resources.

We introduced resources like word clouds, corpus, and English news websites. Then we gave teachers lab time to try out what they have just learned and make their own worksheets for their classes.

It was so amazing to have so many teachers there on a Friday afternoon. Thank you so much to all the teachers who came!

Hi everyone!

This was from our July 4th, 2019 seminar on cooperative learning.

We talked about two important principles of group/pair work: equal participation and simultaneous interaction.

Peter-sensei led the participants through various cooperative learning activities such as Numbered Heads and the Three-Step Interview.
