Learning Through Play: Disaster Preparedness Brainstorming Game 💡

At Kanrin Japanese School, we held an interactive disaster preparedness game designed to help students think creatively and practice their Japanese at the same time.

Each student received a set of cards featuring everyday items, such as an umbrella, bandages, a newspaper, drinking water, a flashlight, a helmet, instant food, a towel, a cooking pot, clothing, and more.

For each round, students were presented with a different emergency scenario. For example: The water and electricity have been cut off, and the weather is extremely hot. What would you do?

Students selected the items they thought would be the most useful and explained in Japanese how they would use them to deal with the situation.

The activity led to plenty of creative and unexpected ideas! Some students suggested using a cooking pot to carry water from a nearby pond, while others thought that eating spicy instant food might help them stay warm in cold weather. Their imagination and problem-solving skills made the discussions both fun and engaging.

We hope that activities like this encourage students to think critically and stay calm in unexpected situations. At the same time, they provide a great opportunity to practice communicating in Japanese while working together to solve real-life problems.

Learning About Disaster Preparedness at Kanrin Japanese School 🚒

Today, students at Kanrin Japanese School took part in a special disaster preparedness lesson led by a staff member from the Aoba District Fire Station.

During the session, students learned how to respond safely in different types of natural disasters and emergency situations. The instructor explained essential safety procedures and shared practical advice on what to do when a disaster occurs.

The highlight of the lesson was the hands-on training. Students practiced emergency victim transportation techniques, giving them the opportunity to apply what they had learned in a realistic setting. This practical experience made the lesson both engaging and memorable while helping students build confidence in responding to emergencies.

At Kanrin Japanese School, we believe that learning extends beyond the classroom. Activities like these help our students develop valuable life skills that will support them during their time in Japan.
