Saint Maur International School

In April, the HS musicians performed their final concert of the academic year. The program featured outstanding performances from the Jazz groups, IB Music students, Choir, Orchestra and Senior Band.

The Music teachers also took the opportunity to bid farewell to the Senior musicians with a series of short personalised speeches. It was also an opportunity to recognise our All Star winners of the KPASS Composition Festival and participants of the KPASS Honor Band & Orchestra event were presented with patches.

The graduating class of 2026 just visited Naha, Okinawa for their Senior Trip. They spent three wonderful days on the beautiful island, and were blessed by great weather.

The students sampled the culinary and cultural delights of the Ryukyu Islands, explored downtown Naha, snorkeled, swam and appreciated the wonders of this subtropical paradise - a perfect way to reflect and unwind after their IB exams.

The Cougar Café was buzzing on Friday May 18th as the combined Grade 6 and Grade 7 students set up their posters for the 2026 Middle School Science Fair.
Their Science Fair presentations were the culmination of several months of hard work, working in groups on a research question of their own design.
This was an opportunity to draw on the Core Scientific Skills that they had learned throughout the year as well as to push themselves beyond the content of the syllabus. A select group of judges started judging their presentations before students, parents and members of the school community also arrived to see them in action.

The Grade 6 judges commented that this year there were some very unique research questions under investigation and that they were supported by some excellent scientific designs and suggestions for improvements.

The Grade 7 judges were amazed by the high levels of preparation by the students and by how much their skills had improved compared to when they participated last year. Everyone was impressed by the enthusiasm of the students and by how welcoming they were to their visitors.

Students in 3G demonstrate exemplary citizenship every day at Saint Maur.
When students make excellent decisions, show extraordinary kindness, or otherwise go above and beyond, they can earn marbles in their collective marble jar. This is a visual reminder of all the positive behaviors they exhibit throughout the school day. When the class fills the jar up to the top, they get to choose their celebration!
This week, 3G chose to spend an extra recess time playing with children in the Montessori classes. This was a unique opportunity beyond the usual recess routines. Third graders played carefully and enthusiastically with some of the youngest friends at Saint Maur. Mr. G reports this is the first time his class has ever voted for such a special recess. This original idea from 3G created happy memories for all the children and strengthened friendships across the school!

Collaborative art experience with Grade one!

This week Montessori had a wonderful collaborative art experience with Grade 1 students! The students from Ms. D’s class joined the art room balcony, where we created beautiful painted butterflies together.

Ms. D, the Elementary Art Learning Leader, guided the students step by step as they designed their unique butterfly creations. The Grade 1 students also had the opportunity to take on leadership roles by supporting and encouraging their Montessori friends throughout the activity. The children thoroughly enjoyed the creative process and were excited to explore their imaginations through art.

This week, our class visited the Science Building as part of our “My Body” theme. The children enjoyed a special hands-on lesson with Ms. Novick, one of our high school Biology teachers. She introduced the children to the internal organs of the body, asked questions to build on their prior knowledge, and was amazed by how much they already knew about digestion and how our organs work. The children especially loved learning how organs like the stomach and intestines expand and contract. It was a fun and engaging experience that helped bring our learning to life!

Saint Maur’s final Concert & Lecture event of the academic year was a memorable one!

On Friday, May 1, Middle School students, joined by members of the Elementary and High School homerooms, enjoyed a special performance by Jonathan Katz’s “Tokyo Little Band.” Led by renowned pianist, arranger, and composer Jonathan Katz, the quintet performed an exciting mix of jazz standards, Disney classics, Erik Satie works, and original compositions.

Featuring outstanding musicians Makiyo Sakai, Juasa Kanoh, Satsuki Kusui, Christopher Hardy, and Jonathan Katz on piano, the performance combined incredible musicianship with engaging explanations and creative interpretations that captivated students and staff alike.

The group also praised Saint Maur’s upgraded auditorium facilities, professional-grade instruments, and warm hospitality.
A fantastic way to close the school week, and the Concert & Lecture series for this academic year!

🌸The final formal concert of the academic year is here, the Middle School Spring Concert! 🌸

Join us this Friday for an evening celebrating the talent and hard work of our Middle School musicians. Every student will perform as part of their Band classes, alongside performances from our extracurricular ensembles including Choir, Jazz Band, Percussion Group, and , for the first time, the String Group.

One of the evening’s highlights will be the Combined Grade 7 & 8 Band, an impressive 80-member ensemble fresh from their outstanding performance at the recent KPASS Band Festival.
