Founded in 1924, Yokohama International School is an independent, not-for-profit school offering the Pre K - Gr. 12 IB curriculum. With over 50 nationalities composing our community, we provide a rich multicultural mix, exciting learning environment and strong academic programs. YIS students have abundant opportunities to explore, develop and challenge themselves in in the classroom and beyond the
classroom in sports, the arts, technology, service learning and outdoor education. Our connection with our host culture is reflected in our Japanese Culture Program that spans all grade levels to embed the importance of multiculturalism in our learning community. We have an active and experienced parent community, allowing families of all backgrounds to thrive in our warm and welcoming school community. At Yokohama International School, our school values are deeply rooted in the principles of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Justice, and Belonging (DEIJB). Our DEIJB commitment is to ensure that every member of our community is respected, valued, and feels a sense of belonging. This includes actively amplifying and embracing gender equity and the diverse voices and experiences of Black, indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) individuals, people with disabilities, neurodiverse individuals, members of the LGBTQIA+ community, and those from various cultural and ethnic backgrounds. By embedding these principles into every aspect of our community life, we create a rich tapestry of perspectives that promotes learning and fosters mutual respect.
