Hinamatsuri
Do you know Hinamatsuri?
Hinamatsuri or Girl’s Day is celebrated every year on March 3rd.
Originally, the Hina dolls were sent on a boat down the rivers and seas to purify the impurities and sins.
But now, Japanese people decorate Hina dolls to wish for the girls to grow up healthy and happy.
Families display peach blossoms and Hishimochi at Hinamatsuri.
It was said that peach blossoms have an amulet effect.
Hishimochi is made by cutting green, pink, white rice cakes into diamond shaped and stacking them into layers.
・Green symbolizes healthy and longevity.
・White symbolizes purity.
・Pink symbolizes warding off evil spirits.
If you ever come to Usuki, there is an event called Hina Meguri, so please join us!
