【Joya no Kane (Ringing the New Year’s Bell at Midnight)・除夜の鐘】

If you want to participate in the most eventful part of welcoming the new year in Japan, why don’t you go to witness Joya no Kane?
Temples’ bells around the country are rung repeatedly at the midnight of the new year’s eve.
The bell is usually rung 108 times, representing 108 desires people have in the entire life.
107 times are rung at midnight of the new year’s eve, and the last time is rung at 0:00 in the new year.
This last stroke means that you don’t have to worry about the last year’s problems.
In some temples, you can attend to this bell ringing.
This is Buddism’s culture, so if you want to listen to Joya no Kane, don’t go to shrines by mistake!!

日本の新年を向かえる一番のイベントに参加したかったら、除夜の鐘を見に行くのはどうですか？
大晦日に、日本中の至る所にある鐘が何度も鳴らされます。
鐘は通常108回鳴らされ、それは人が一生のうちに持つとされる108の煩悩を表しています。
107回は新年の前夜、大晦日に鳴らされ、最後の一回は、新年の0：00にならされます。
この最後の一回は、去年の問題をすべて忘れるように、といった意味が込められているようです。
いくつかのお寺では、鐘をつく体験もできますよ。
これは仏教の文化なので、もし除夜の鐘を聞きたかったら、間違えて神社に行かないように気を付けてくださいね！
