”Softbank to offer monthly smartphone plan under ¥5,000”
Softbank Corp., complying with government instructions, will become Japan’s first major cellphone service provider to offer a monthly smartphone plan under 5,000 yen ($42), but with access to only 1 gigabyte of data.
The company said Jan. 7 the new plan will cost 4,900 yen a month, or 1,600 yen less than its current cheapest plan for smartphone services. It will be introduced in April at the earliest.
NTT Docomo Inc. and KDDI Corp., operator of the au service, are also studying services cheaper than their current lowest plans, which go for 6,500 yen and 6,200 yen, respectively.
An expert panel of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications in December urged mobile carriers to introduce monthly plans, including calling fees, for 5,000 yen or less. The panel noted, “Many cellphone users take up less than 1 GB of data traffic.”

データ通信料1GBの物ですので,まだまだ利用者が5000円以下で
使えるようになるのは,格安SIMなどを使うなどする方が多いでしょうね.
