New International School of Japan

C classes students are currently on an overnight camp (April 27–28) in Nagatoro located in Chichibu, Saitama Prefecture. On the first day, they went rafting on the Arakawa River.

Cクラスは、27-28日(1泊2日）、埼玉県秩父郡長瀞で宿泊学習を行っております。1日目は、荒川でのラフティングを体験しました。

Students in upper school have been carrying out ecological fieldwork in the local area, focusing on lichens. Lichens are pioneer organisms who are also an example of symbiosis and who act as bioindicators. Students have been taking samples and keeping digital records of lichen varieties in different zones, suggesting reasons for differences in their distribution including, for example, levels of air pollution. They have also observed many other interesting living things, generating discussions on topics like genetics and evolution.

アッパースクールの生徒たちは、地衣類に焦点を当て、野外調査を行っています。地衣類は、先駆生物であると同時に共生の一例であり、生物指標としても機能しています。生徒たちは、さまざまな地域で地衣類の標本を採取し、デジタル記録を残しています。また、大気汚染のレベルなど、分布の違いが生じる理由について考察しています。さらに、他にも多くの興味深い生物を観察し、遺伝学や進化といったテーマについて議論を深めています。

Senior school students have been investigating figurative ceramics from the ancient world. Inspired by these, we created our own original works.

シニアスクールの生徒たちは古代の具象陶芸を参考にしながら、それぞれオリジナルの作品制作に取り組んでいます。

It’s Book Week at NewIS! C Class celebrated our love of words and reading with Dress Up as a Word Day, where children and teachers came to school dressed as a word they love. Throughout the week, children brought in their favourite books from home and shared them with the class. We rounded off the week with our Book Tasting Afternoon, exploring different genres, dipping into new titles and discovering books they might never have picked up otherwise. A few new favourites were found along the way!

NewISでは読書週間が開催されました！Cクラスでは、言葉と読書への気持ちを「ドレス・アズ・ア・ワード・デー」でお祝いしました。子どもたちと教師はこの日、それぞれが選んだ言葉をイメージした服装で登校しました。また、子どもたちがお気に入りの本を家から持ってきて、クラスのみんなと紹介し合いました。週のしめくくりには、「本の試し読みレストラン」で、さまざまなジャンルの本を探索し、新しい本にふれ、これまで手に取ったことのなかったような本を発見しました。

Book Week 2026 What a fun week we had in the library!

The Sakura Medal votes are all in! Upper School students finished submitting their votes this week. C Class and Upper School students chose book characters to sit next to on a long-haul flight and justified their reasons. B Class students secretly chose a book character, and described it. Other students tried to solve the character mysteries. Senior students shared their recent reads with each other, citing themes of conflict. Ms. Anna shared one of her favorite picture books, The Three Little Pigs, with A Class students.

今週は、ブックウィークでした。
生徒たちは、図書室で有意義な時間を過ごしました。

まず、さくらメダルの投票がすべて終了し、各クラス、様々な活動に取り組みました。Cクラスとアッパースクールの生徒は、「長距離フライトで隣に座りたいキャラクター」を一人選び、その理由を論理的に説明しました。Bクラスでは、正体を隠して本のキャラクターを一人選び、その特徴を説明。他の生徒たちがその正体を当てる「キャラクター・ミステリー」に挑戦しました。
シニアスクールの生徒は、 「衝突」というテーマに触れながら、最近読んだ本について紹介し合いました。Aクラスは、アンナ先生が、お気に入りの絵本の一つである『三びきの子ぶた』の読み聞かせを行いました。

During this term's learning about our local community and the world around us, C3 class have been recreating the local neighbourhood by building a diorama of Azuma-dori. After taking many photos of the street, we then began sourcing materials and planning our project!

今学期、地域社会や私たちを取り巻く世界について学ぶ中で、C3クラスは東通りの模型を作り、街並みを再現しています。東通りの写真をたくさん撮った後、その写真を元に計画を立て始めました！

In the spring term, C Class has been exploring our local community under the theme “All Around Us.”

The C2 Class visited IKE・SUNPARK (Toshima Disaster Prevention Park), which is about a 15-minute walk from the school.
Students were able to learn firsthand about the various features that the Toshima City government has put in place in preparation for emergencies.

We will continue to expand our learning by exploring the many services and systems that support our daily lives.

春学期、Cクラスでは「私たちの暮らし」をテーマに、地域社会に目を向けた学習を進めています。 先日、C2クラスは、学校から徒歩15分のところにあるイケ・サンパーク（としまみどりの防災公園）を訪れました。 豊島区が災害時を備えて整備しているさまざまな工夫を、実際に目にしながら学ぶことができました。 今後も、私たちの暮らしを支えるさまざまな仕組みについて、学びを広げていきます。

Upper School students have been creating special bug artworks inspired by the arrival of spring, exploring colorful patterns, symmetry, and creative color combinations.

アッパースクールの生徒は、春の訪れに刺激され、創造的な色の組み合わせや対称性を探求しながら、ユニークな虫の作品を制作しています。

C class students in the Japanese group celebrated spring by making origami sakura, writing haiku about spring and cherry blossoms, and actually going to see cherry blossoms!

Cクラスの日本語グループの生徒は、折り紙で桜を作ったり、春や桜の俳句を書いたり、実際に桜を見に行ったりして、春を楽しみました。

NewIS players performed ”Cinderella”.

NewISミュージカルは、「シンデレラ」の公演を行いました。

The Subtitling Class is creating Japanese and Korean programs for the upcoming production of "Cinderella." We're giving it our all to make tomorrow's performance a huge success.
