We've been studying about the different types of beer lately.

Ales
Brewed with top fermenting yeast at cellar temperature, ales are often darker than lagers, ranging from rich gold to reddish amber. Top fermenting, and more hops in the wort gives these beers a distinctive fruitfulness, acidity and pleasantly bitter seasoning.

Pale Ale: Pales are a dry beer with a defined hop taste. The color ranges from copper brown to amber. There is a wide range of pale, from mild to quite bitter.
India Pale Ale: Otherwise known as IPA. Originally made with extra hop to survive the trip from England to India. This beer is high in hops giving it a dry bitter flavor. Deep copper to pale in color. A high alcohol content with a fruity flavor.
Blond and Golden Ales: A lighter version of the pale ale with a floral aroma and a light dry taste. Clear and crisp with a bit of fruitiness. Closer to lager in flavor than other ales.
Bitter: This beer is a very bitter style of pale ale. Highly hopped with strength varying from Ordinary to Best to Extra Special Bitter (ESB).This is mainly a British type of ale.
Brown Ale: A reddish-brown to dark brown beer. Lightly hopped and sweet flavor. Brown ale is a full-bodied brew with a low alcohol content.
Porter: A dark, almost black, fruity-dry, top fermenting style. An ale, porter is brewed with a combination of roasted malt to impart flavor, color and aroma.
Stout: Also a black, roast brew made by top fermentation. Stout, not as sweet to the taste, features a rich, creamy head and is flavored and colored by barley.
Belgian Ale: Dark or light, but rich and complex. Flavors come from Belgian yeast.
Wheat Beer: Made from wheat not barely. Often very hoppy. Hefeweizen is a popular style.
Lagers
Lager originates from the German word lagern which means 'to store' – it refers to the method of storing it for several months in near-freezing temperatures. Crisp and refreshing with a smooth finish from longer aging, lagers are the world's most popular beer Lager is usually used to describe bottom-fermented brews of Dutch, German, and Czech styles.
Pale Lager: This is the most popular type of lager, boasting a lighter color and body. These are highly carbonated and have a much lighter taste
Pilsner: Pilsner style beer originated in Plzen, Czechoslovakia in 1842. Pilsners are malty sweet, and well hopped. Pilsners have a good amount of carbonation and are clean and crisp.
Bock: Originating in Germany, Bock beer is a hearty beer with high alcohol content. Bock beer has a pronounced malt flavor with just enough hop bitterness to tame the sweetness.
Oktoberfest (Marzen) – Marz, or March, is when the last beer was brewed before summer months. At the beginning of the new brewing season (around October), the remaining beer in storage was drunk in a celebration, Oktoberfest. This beer is amber in color and is slightly heavy. It is malty sweet as typical with beer from southern Germany and Austria.
