*Anxiety and Nervousness Aren’t Bad — What Matters Is Noticing and Choosing
Many people struggle with feeling nervous or rushed when studying, taking exams, working, or just living their daily lives.
When we panic, we make mistakes or can’t move forward as we hope, and then we start blaming ourselves.
But feeling nervous itself is not a bad thing.
For example:
・ A child who gets nervous will worry when they can’t do something, and even after they improve, they still get nervous.
・ A child who often complains will complain when they struggle, and even when they succeed, they complain about something else.
・ A timid child feels anxious before solving a problem, and even after solving it, they feel anxious again in the next situation.
These are simply a person’s natural “traits” or “reaction patterns.”
Our personality habits are not good or bad by themselves.
So what becomes a problem?
It’s when we don’t notice our own tendencies and let them control us.
Both learning and life are built on our basic “way of being.”
This way of being is our foundation.
A child who gets nervous will still get nervous as an adult.
A timid child will still have a timid side later in life.
For some people, this shows up in studying; for others, it shows up in relationships or work.
In other words, the way we face our studies is directly connected to the way we will face our future life.
On the other hand, students who can stay calm and think step by step are able to follow a line of reasoning patiently.
This ability helps them read texts with high levels of abstraction.
Once they can understand reading passages in Japanese, then academic papers make more sense.
When they learn to read and write logically, they naturally start doing better in university or at work.
Even if it doesn’t connect directly to a job, it still helps in communication and sharing ideas on social media.
And again—this “way of being” is not good or bad.
What matters is simply:
1. Knowing your own tendencies
2. Accepting them without denying them
3. Choosing what to do next, based on that awareness
If you can notice your nervousness, your worries, or your habit of complaining,
and then choose how to handle them, they stop being weaknesses.
They can even become strengths—like being careful, sensitive to situations, or aware of others.
So there is no need to blame yourself for feeling nervous.
Just notice, “I feel rushed right now.”
And even in that state, choose the action you want to take next.
That choice becomes a solid “inner axis” that supports you in the future.
Anxiety and nervousness aren’t bad.
May you come to know your own nature, accept it kindly, and take your next step from there.
