【ユネスコ後援企画／講堂イベント】アラビア語公教育100周年記念「アラビア語がつなぐ日本とアラブ世界」/ ＜Cultural Event＞ 100th Anniversary of Arabic Public Education in Japan under the Patronage of UNESCO
国立民族学博物館主催、グローバル地中海地域研究民博拠点他共催事業として、上記のイベントを開催します。このイベントはUNESCOの後援を得て開催されます。日本でアラビア語の公教育が始まって１００年、アラビア語が育んだ芸術や文化を知り、言葉のもつ力の意味を考えてみましょう。当日は、大阪大学アラビア語専攻の学生の皆さんによるアラビア語劇、ウード奏者の常味裕司氏の演奏、アブダビ・アラビア語センター長のアリー・ビン・タミーム氏、アラビア書道家本田孝一氏と、本拠点西尾哲夫拠点長の対談なども予定されております。皆さんぜひご参加ください。(English Follows)
It has been 100 years since the teaching of Arabic in public educational institutions began in Japan. Let us explore the art and culture fostered by Arabic and reflect on the power of language.
On the day of the event, there will be an Arabic Language drama by Students Majoring Arabic, School of Foreign Studies, The University of Osaka, a performance by oud player Mr.Yuji Tsunemi, and a discussion between He.Dr.Ali bin Tamim, Director of the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre, Arabic calligrapher Mr.Koichi Honda, and Dr.Tetsuo Nishio, Director of Global Mediterranean at NME. We hope you will join us.

2025年2月8日（土）および9日（日）の2日間、国立民族学博物館において、近現代ペルシア建築史・美術史をポストコロニアル理論、人種論、フェミニズム理論、批判理論の観点から研究されているカリフォルニア大学UC DavisのTalinn Grigor教授をお招きし、下記の要領で国際ワークショップ “Global Perspectives on Persian Art: Reception, Representation, and Identity” を開催いたします。
本ワークショップは、人間文化研究機構ネットワーク型基幹研究プロジェクト「グローバル地中海地域研究」の東京外国語大学アジア・アフリカ言語文化研究所（AA研）拠点・国立民族学博物館（みんぱく）拠点、「環インド洋地域研究」国立民族学博物館拠点、東京大学東洋文化研究所班研究「イスラーム美術の諸相」班共催のイベントです。国内外で最先端の研究に取り組む比較文化論、美術史、博物館学の研究者が一堂に会する貴重な機会となりますので、奮ってご参加ください。プログラムおよび参加申し込みについては以下をご確認ください。（締切2/5 日本時間22:00)

Building on recent scholarship that explores the shaping of the notion of “Persian art” by the activities of artists, scholars, collectors, and dealers, this workshop aims to expand the understanding of Persian art through a trans-regional lens, focusing on Asia. An international extension of the workshop, “The Representation of Epistemological Self and Other in Modern Asia,” held in February 2024, this event seeks to examine how Persian art was perceived and represented through publications, museum exhibitions, and architecture within the global context of the 19th and 20th centuries. Through a series of case studies, the workshop will explore the reception of Persian art in Japan, India, and Iran, highlighting the influence of cross-cultural exchanges and global networks on its meanings and representations.
The first day of the workshop will shed light on the reception of Persian art in Japan and India, with papers that address historiography, collection history, and architecture. The discussion topics will include the role of historiography in shaping discourses on Japan-Iran relations, the history of Japanese encounters with Persian art, and the use of Persian elements in Indo-Saracenic architecture and its impact on the redefinition of Indian identity. The focus on the second day will shift to the context of modern Iran, with the objective of challenging monolithic art historical narratives. The papers will address the definition of national culture in Iranian museums as well as the role of modernist architects from Iran’s religious minorities in the circulation of the International Style. Ultimately, the workshop aims to deepen our understanding of the complexities surrounding Persian art, examining its interpretation, transformation, and redefinition within both national and international frameworks.

グローバル地中海地域研究民博拠点・西尾哲夫拠点長（国立民族学博物館）が、諏訪市図書館企画「今こそ知りたいイスラーム世界」において講演を行いました。(講演タイトル「アラビアンナイト誕生秘話～ルイ１４世時代のフランスと中東イスラーム世界～」）講演後は、板垣雄三（東京大学名誉教授）、堀内正樹（元成蹊大学教授）、小川幸司（「世界史とは何か」（岩波書店）等著者）の各氏を交えて座談会が行われ、会場の皆さんからも多くの質問が寄せらました。
Prof. Tetsuo Nishio, Director of the Global Mediterranean at Minpaku, gave a lecture at the Suwa City Library project "The Islamic world we want to know about now" (title: “The Secret Story of the Birth of the Arabian Nights)
After the lecture, a round-table discussion was held with Yuzo Itagaki (Professor Emeritus, University of Tokyo), Masaki Horiuchi (Former Professor, Seikei University), and Koji Ogawa (Author of “What is World History?” (Iwanami Shoten)), and many questions were raised by the audience.

アブダビ・アラビア語センター（シャイフ・ザーイド・ブック・アワード）主催、慶應義塾大学および駐日アラブ首長国連邦大使館共催のカンファレンス「アラビアン・ナイト　文化の旅―大陸と世紀を超えて―」が開催されました。グローバル地中海地域研究プロジェクトからは、民博拠点の西尾哲夫名誉教授（民博/拠点長）、鵜戸聡准教授（明治大学）、岡本尚子特任助教（民博）、東洋大拠点の三沢伸生教授（東洋大学/拠点長）が発表を行いました。
Professor Emeritus Tetsuo Nishio, Associate Professor Satoshi Udo, and Assistant Professor Naoko Okamoto, members of Global Mediterranean at the National Museum of Ethnology, and Professor Nobuo Misawa, project leader of Global Mediterranean at ACRI at Toyo University, participated in a conference titled "Arabian Nights: A Cultural Journey Across Continents and Centuries", hosted by the Sheikh Zayed Book Award and the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre in collaboration with Keio University and the UAE Embassy in Tokyo.
